Application Specialist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Application Specialist works within our technical team to provide technical support to existing and potential customers. They will work closely with all members of the technical team across Proax along with the inside and outside sales team. The Application Specialist will work with the Technical Manager who will coordinate time management of projects, quotes and design (customer presentations, training, telephone support, etc.) and will report to the Ontario Technical Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop to create “Proof of concept” solutions for various automation systems or Robotic systems
  • Assist engineers in the design, configuration, or application of robotic systems
  • Design and provide robotic systems solutions including vision
  • Create BOMs and programming for Robots, Anyfeeder, Drives, PLCs, Motion, HMI, and safety applications
  • Troubleshoot robotic systems, using knowledge of microprocessors, programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, sensor or feedback systems, hydraulics, or pneumatics
  • Determine causes of operational problems or failures
  • Maintain a data base for demo equipment and review on a regular basis to ensure they are up to date; rotate when necessary
  • Exhibit professional, respectful interaction with the customers, vendors and team members
  • Train customers or other personnel to install, use, or maintain robots
  • Create and maintain a Project/Activity Database along with a calendar
  • Provide technical training for top accounts, top prospects and large customers, inside team and technical sales representatives
  • Provide onsite Technical Support for top accounts, top prospects and large customers; billable services based on customer needs and volume potential
  • Accurately and professionally represent Proax Technologies to customers and vendors
  • Demonstrate ability to accept overall project responsibility
  • Understanding of electrical/electronic schematic diagrams and blueprints
  • Maintain Project/Activity with available Proax resources
  • Flexible to adopt other responsibilities as deemed necessary by management

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent understanding of the technical fundamentals of programming of Robotics, PLC, HMI, Motion, Vision, etc.
  • Experience in the development of database and PC base programming
  • Knowledge, experience, and troubleshooting with machine automation (design and programming)
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), interpersonal, organization and presentation skills
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with Customers and Proax staff
  • Must be willing to travel to customer sites
  • Able to work independently and in group efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree or Technologist Diploma or related to Computer Science, Mechanical or Controls/Electromechanical engineering, with a preference to electrical, mechanical and robotics specialization.
  • More than 2 years of experience with ABB, Omron and/or other industrial robots. Emphasis is placed on robots integration/implementation with different kinematics and applications with motion and vision systems and a high degree of hands-on, practical experience
  • Excellent computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software and Excel Bilingual in English and French an asset
