Gillfor Distribution is seeking an EWP Designer to join their team.

The EWP Designer (EWP Technical Service Representative) is responsible for the designing of structural wood components i.e., floors, beams and columns for residential and light commercial buildings.

This position entails working closely with customers and sales staff. The EWP Designer will be involved in our BC, AB, SK, and MB branches. Working for one of our Western/Central branches and reporting directly to the Western VP. Branch locations include Kelowna, Langley, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. Candidates must be able to access one of these branch locations regularly for work.

Core Responsibilities:

• Design packages for all Engineered Wood Products applications ranging from single residences to multi-family complexes & light commercial buildings.
• Coordinate EWP components with regards to receiving the plans, quoting, and designing EWP systems.
• Prepare shop drawings for products and provides technical assistance to customers and to the Sales department.
• Consult and work with dealers, architects, city building officials, engineers and contractors to ensure that design projects are completed correctly and on time.
• Help and assist the Sales team with customer requests in a positive and constructive manner with a focus on offering exceptional customer service.
• Provide structural analysis of wood beams and columns.

Academic and Core Competencies:

• Functional computer and math skills.
• The ability to correctly read and interpret blueprints and structural working drawings.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Professional, courteous, and punctual with a focus on exceptional customer service.
• Solid understanding of the building code and construction market. BCIN in Structural would be an asset.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or “Floor design” software; Javelin, iStruct, Keymark, Mitek is an asset.
• Practical experience in the construction or building materials industry an asset.
• Diploma, Architecture Construction Engineering Technology or similar.

Working Parameters

• Gross base salary range to start $60,000 - $70,000
• Start Date: January 1st, 2024
• Working hours are local branch hours, Monday through Friday.
