OVERVIEW: Reporting to the SWP Supervisor, the Support Worker will be responsible for working alongside families and children to guide and assist them in achieving their goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Facilitating and supervising family visits to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all involved parties.
  • Providing mentoring and guidance to individuals and families, offering emotional support and practical advice as needed.
  • Conducting assessments to identify the specific needs and goals of individuals and families and developing personalized support plans accordingly.
  • Implementing strategies and interventions to promote positive family dynamics and enhance communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Collaborating with other professionals and agencies involved in the care and support of individuals and families, such as social workers, therapists, and community organizations.
  • Monitoring progress and outcomes of support plans, adjusting strategies as necessary to ensure continued effectiveness.
  • Providing in-home support services, including assistance with daily living activities, household management, and transportation.
  • Advocating for the rights and well-being of individuals and families, ensuring they have access to resources and services that meet their needs.
  • Documenting interactions, observations, and interventions accurately and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Participating in training and professional development activities to stay current with best practices and emerging trends in the field of support services.
  • Facilitate recreational opportunities for families and children.
  • Maintain accurate timesheets, mileage & contract submissions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working with individuals and families in a supportive capacity, preferably in a social services or community-based setting.
  • Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and therapeutic techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Empathy, compassion, and patience in working with individuals and families facing challenging circumstances.
  • Ability to assess needs, develop support plans, and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical principles in working with sensitive information and client relationships.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and fulfill any licensing or certification requirements as necessary for the role.
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent experience in Human Services field
  • Valid class 5 Manitoba drivers license an asset
  • Knowledge of Community resources
  • Knowledge in the area of Addictions and Trauma and the impact it has on families
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation
  • Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse, Vulnerable Persons check and Criminal records check
  • Ability to guide and build relationships with children and families
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, E-mail, SNAP scheduling, Dayforce and Internet
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem solving and team skills
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabe an asset
