Valard Construction is supporting another Quanta Services company in the hiring of an HR Generalist. The HR Generalist will report to the HR Director, and be the point of contact for all HR related items for Canadian operations. The role will be based out of Calgary, AB with consideration given to a hybrid work model.

Recruitment, Staffing & Onboarding

  • Works collaboratively with hiring managers to create position profiles to attract qualified applicants.
  • Provide new offer letters to candidates and updates employment contract templates as required.
  • Creates and executes strategic recruitment plan to attract top talent based on the requirements of the position.
  • Conducts full cycle recruitment activities including pre-screening, interviewing, reference checking, facilitating pre-employment requirements.
  • Completes hiring documentation and assigning appropriate rates of pay consistent with candidates' qualifications and experience.
  • Provides advice and assistance to management and applicants regarding recruitment processes and procedures.
  • Conducts new hire orientations, review new hire paperwork, and provide information on company policies and procedures, benefits program, and other company programs.
  • Enters new hire information on the company HRIS.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports as required, utilizing HR Systems.

Employee Relations

  • Coaches' management staff on employee relation issues including, progressive discipline, interpretation of HR policies and processes, interpretation of Valard policies, and interpretation of employment and labor legislation.
  • Coaches' management staff on termination process including determination of severance, terms and conditions and outplacement in consultation with legislation.
  • Provides recommendations to management on employee relation issues in accordance with applicable employment legislation to manage risk.
  • Creates and maintains employment relationship and rapport with all departments and personnel.
  • Provide consultation to managers and supervisors in addressing performance concerns through disciplinary/non-disciplinary action as appropriate; participate or lead formal and informal employee investigations as required and provide effective recommendations for resolution are provided.
  • Acts as primary contact for day-to-day employee issues.
  • Collaborates with appropriate company resources to resolve any potential or real litigation or legal issues.
  • Supports and leads implementation of corporate Human Resources programs and policies for the business.

Policy Management

  • Maintains compliance with federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Reviews and updates current policies as needed.
  • Lead policy review and education for HR team.

Compensation

  • In collaboration with department managers and supervisors, create, audit and update job descriptions.
  • Understand Valard's wage adjustment process, making recommendations and improvements in consultation with HR team.
  • Collaborates with management on requests for compensation-related issues.
  • Prepares communications related to compensation program.

Communication

  • Develops and maintains relationships with local organizations, recruitment agencies, benefits brokers, educational institutions, and learning and development providers.
  • Respond to telephone, email and in-person inquiries regarding human resource matters in a timely and professional manner.
  • Coordinate and work collaboratively with the payroll department as it relates to new hires and pay related changes and updates.
  • Updates and maintain SharePoint as a central HR information and communication hub.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand HR systems and data available to provide insightful recommendations to the business.
  • Identify gaps and areas of risk as they are understood, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Participate in HR projects, such as HR system implementations, process improvements and cultural initiatives.
  • Support HR Coordinators as required with ERP or HRIS entries.
  • Analyze HR metrics and trends to identify areas of improvement.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • University degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration/ Commerce/Management with Human Resources and/or Labour Relations coursework.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or in the process of obtaining is considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years experience in an HR Generalist role.
