Reception House Waterloo Region is a non-profit organization, that supports government-assisted refugees successfully transition to a new life in Waterloo region. Our mission is to provide quality settlement, integration and support services by delivering comprehensive and holistic programs that help refugees integrate and become established in their new community. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full-time permanent Director, Strategic Partnerships to lead and grow our Fundraising and Public Relations department. The Director, Strategic Partnerships will be responsible for creating and implementing the overall strategic direction of Reception House to facilitate growth and sustainability. They will work closely with the CEO and fundraising & communication and program development teams to develop new programs and services through fundraising and partnership building. The Director of Strategic Partnership plays a key role in building relationships and partnerships with community stakeholders to drive RH strategic goals.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive business strategies to facilitate organizational growth, focusing on long-term goals and profitability.
  • Perform research, analyze data, conduct community assessment and environmental scans to identify gaps, and build business cases for new initiatives.
  • Develop new programs & projects through partnership and collaboration as well as fundraising and grant writing.
  • Develop strategic partnerships, networks and relationships with external organizations, funders, donors, community partners, government agencies, local politicians and corporations in order to generate funding, support and growth potential for the organization.
  • Work closely with the CEO and Revenue Diversification Committee (RDC) to strategize and drive the organization's strategic fundraising activities.
  • Work closely with the CEO and advocacy committee to develop advocacy framework.
  • Provide leadership in developing and evaluating strategic, donor centric fundraising approaches that complement and enhance new programs.
  • Establish internal policies and operating procedures necessary to achieve fundraising and growth objectives.
  • Work closely with CEO to develop strategies for alternate revenue in line with a social enterprise model.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration among cross-functional teams to drive new program success.
  • Establish effective communication strategy and develop workplan to ensure organization financial sustainability.
  • Oversee and provide direction on grant writing and fundraising initiatives.
  • Oversee donor relations, stewardship and cultivation activities.
  • Promote RH mission, vision and values in the community.
  • Provides direct management, supervisory responsibilities, and establishes priorities for fundraising and communication team.
  • Promotes the needs of the unit at fundraising and other special events through public speaking engagements and personal contact.
  • Implement best practices in project and program development to ensure consistent and high-quality outcomes.
  • Set budgets; manage and control department expenditures; submit financial reports and documentation.
  • Allocate and manage resources efficiently to ensure the successful execution of new programs.
  • Ensure risk mitigation efforts are considered during creation of new programs and initiatives.

What you'll need:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in non-profit sector required, preferably in area of resettlement, settlement, immigration and refugees.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, or similar required.
  • Experience in public relations, fundraising, social enterprise, grant development, communications and/or program design required.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain complex multi-level relationships with corporate partners, individual donors, volunteer boards, committees, peers, and support staff.
  • Experience working directly with all levels of government.
  • Experience working directly with IRCC, or similar government agencies an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of current and established fundraising principles and techniques.
  • Proven track record of high-level donor cultivation and face-to-face solicitation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage others, provide direction and feedback.
  • Exceptional ability to think strategically to align programs with organizational goals.
  • Understand ethical behaviour and business practices and ensure that own behaviour and the behaviour of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
  • Able to effectively allocate resources and manage budgets.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Working conditions:

  • Must be able to attend off-site events and meetings outside regular working hours when needed.
  • Some travel required within Waterloo Region.
  • Physical demands include sitting at a desk and utilizing a computer majority of work time.
