Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Assistant Site Superintendent will assist the Site Superintendent with the onsite supervision, administrative and technical direction on construction project sites and perform miscellaneous labour tasks such as back framing and framing inspections at the Site Superintendent's direction. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the construction process, including design process, trade methodology, trade demarcation, and prevailing conditions.

What you'll be doing

  • Assist the Site Superintendent with monitoring of the construction schedule and working with the trades to ensure schedule is realistic and supported so that project goals can be met.
  • Monitor milestones in the schedule.
  • Assist the Site Superintendent with creating and supplying Weekly Progress Goals and Accomplishment Reports, including photos and forward to the Construction & Project Manager.
  • Assist with monitoring that the job is not being delayed by lack of decision and record any cost or schedule impacts of this indecision.
  • Assist with project meetings and record keeping.
  • Assist the Site Superintendent with coordinating, managing, and communicating with all subcontractors and assist with such problems as delivery, labor and schedule.
  • Assist the Site Superintendent with Daily Reports and coordinating meetings.
  • Log and confirm coordinating phone calls with trades and consultants by using email software.
  • Assist with the mandate that three or less deficiencies are met on all projects.
  • Honest reporting of deficiencies recorded on Certificate of Possession.
  • Monitor, review and ensure customer upgrades are correctly completed.
  • Assist with coordinating Elevator “Move In” Schedule for owner possessions.
  • Assist with Pre and Possessions Walk's with new owners.
  • To review the contract drawings and specifications and assist in making sure the building is built in accordance with these documents.
  • Conduct framing inspections and refer to the framing details to ensure things are built according to plan and specification.
  • Assist with creating and implementing quality control schedules to assist in day-to-day monitoring of site activities.
  • Ensure all related parties adhere to the Logel Homes Quality Control Program.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance of all policies, procedures, and contracts.
  • Ensure Office and Worksites are clean, presentable, and reflective of a professional place of business.
  • Assist with ensuring trades are engaged and accountable to their Contracts and Scope of Work.
  • Assist with completion of seasonal items as soon as the weather permits.
  • Ensure trades have a signed contract, Insurance, WCB and an MPO before allowing them onsite.
  • Assist with supervision and coordination of trade activities throughout the duration of the project, following up completion to ensure project goals are achieved.
  • Assist in organizing and completing regular required inspections with City and Consultants.
  • Assist with ensuring that completed buildings have all required inspections and occupancy permits in place from Consultants and City Inspectors.
  • Ensure safe practices are used by all employees and Trades on sites.
  • Ensuring safe practices used by all safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

What you bring to the team

  • 1 year in at least one discipline of the construction industry as well as Multi‐Family Construction Industry understanding.
  • An understanding of multi‐ family wood frame construction.
  • An understanding of the Alberta Building Code, the Alberta Lien Act, and the Workman's Compensation Board Act
  • Competent with Microsoft Office
  • General understanding of drawings – including Structural, Mechanical and Electrical
  • An understanding of framing carpentry.
  • Proficient conflict resolution and customer service skills
  • Ability to negotiate with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Understanding of when situations should be escalated to appropriate members of management.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to adjust communication style to various personality types.
  • Team oriented – provide support, motivation, and encouragement to team.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, develop, and motivate others.
  • Ability to take direction and mentorship from those above you.

Qualifications & Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Gold Seal Certificates and Safety Certificate such as WHMIS.
