Job Title: Maintenance Planner

Reporting directly to the Superintendent, Operations, this position is responsible for building and leading the maintenance program for all mobile equipment, fixed plant and light vehicles for the Eskay Creek Revitalization Project.

This role will plan and procure for all maintenance activities and ensure all project safety regulations and environmental procedures are implemented for maintenance work at Eskay Creek. The Maintenance Planner is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance activities and fleet planning. This is a developmental role for the right candidate: this role will help build a long-term maintenance program, project manage the permanent truck shop and work with both fixed plant and mobile equipment maintenance programs.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Plan and coordinate all maintenance activities for the mobile equipment fleet.
  • Plan and coordinate all maintenance activities for the fixed plant at site.
  • Manage all fuel, lube, DEF, consumables, oils, tires and parts for site including tracking usage and re-ordering as necessary.
  • Build and implement a maintenance program for all mobile equipment.
  • Provide input and feedback to engineering for mobile equipment purchases, truck shop requirements and fixed plant procurement.
  • Assist mechanics with prioritization of equipment maintenance.
  • Track equipment downs, equipment ups, PMs and report out equipment fleet status to varying levels of site management.
  • Order equipment parts including critical spares as necessary.
  • Work directly with warehousing on maintaining inventory, tracking inventory and re-ordering as necessary.
  • Build and manage maintenance budget and track costs as incurred.
  • Review existing maintenance regularly to reduce costs and improve operational standards.
  • Understand overall maintenance program performance in line with approved project budget and schedule.
  • Instill and drive a strong, positive safety culture in all workers at Eskay Creek.
  • Comply with the requirements of the health and safety guidelines, policies, and rules for the Eskay Creek site.
  • Ensure escalation procedures and incident reporting procedures are implemented and maintained to meet contractual standards.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to direct reports to support growth and development, driving performance excellence.
  • Resolve conflicts amongst team members; provide regular coaching, feedback, and recognition.
  • Provide inputs to Project Controls for weekly reports covering safety, progress, and operating issues.
  • Work with and communicate closely with project team members, site management, vendors, and outside regulators.
  • Inform senior management of any safety or environmental issues that arise on site without undue delay.
  • Manage relationships with equipment vendors and maintenance suppliers to accurately schedules resources as required.
  • Manage light vehicle fleet including vehicle maintenance, tires, insurance, tracking and repairs.
  • All other duties as required by the Company.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years direct experience in heavy equipment and/or mining maintenance.
  • BASc. In Mechanical Engineering

OR

  • Red Seal HD Mechanic
  • Demonstrated work experience in equipment maintenance planning.
  • Must have a Valid Driver's License.
  • Experience working in a remote mining or industrial environment is required.

Skills/Experience:

  • Expert in Heavy Duty Equipment maintenance.
  • Work in a similar role for a mine or large heavy civil/mining contractor.
  • Experience with scheduling.
  • Detailed understanding of technical aspects of maintenance including reading drawings, understanding parts procurement and contractor management.
  • Experience in contract management, budget supervision, customer service and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize while under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions:

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

The salary range provided is a guideline and an offer for this position would be based on the candidate's level of experience and qualifications. In conjunction with the base salary there would be a larger benefits package including Employer paid health and dental benefits, Healthcare spending account and a Short-term incentive.
