We have an immediate opening for Metallurgist at our Windsor Extrusion Plant.
Position Overview:
As an Metallurgist in the aluminum extrusion manufacturing industry, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the measurement system, as well as performing calibration and measurement activities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and be able to troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Compile and analyze metallurgical data.
  • Ensure that lab work meets established quality standards and Company procedures.
  • Responsible for providing technical advice about the suitability of aluminum profiles for different purposes.
  • Ensure extrusion material testing protocol meets or exceeds customer requirements.
  • Provide support during regulatory audits as well as coordination of continuous improvement projects.
  • Train personnel to identify quality defects in extrusion profiles.
  • Oversee the laboratory- based analysis of samples.
  • Liaise with supervisors and quality engineers for problem solving.
  • Optimize back-end and front-end scrap tied to the extrusion process
  • Measure quench rate for quench sensitive products
  • Establish extrusion/quench/age parameters for optimal product quality.
  • Establish optimum alloy chemistry to achieve material specs and productivity goals.
  • Support Program Management with material specifications and testing requirements

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3 Yr. Metallurgical Engineering Technology Diploma or Bachelor Degree
  • Strong background in Physical Metallurgy and Metallurgical Properties of Material and have proven experience in leading activities in the casting & thermo-mechanical processing of aluminum alloys, mechanical testing, microstructure characterisation and general materials characterisation areas.
  • Strong understanding of automotive quality requirements, including but not limited to IATF 16949
  • Knowledge of solidification and casting of aluminum alloys is essential.
  • 2-3 years' experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Strong communication skills both written verbal.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness and the ability to collaborate with various departments and levels across the organizations.

Salary: $72,500.00 per year
