Our Fire Alarm Systems & New Construction Estimator will play a valuable role in the successful growth of our partnership by supporting the account management and technical teams in planning and costing work scopes as well as devising solutions to meet client-specific needs. Some additional expectations of this role include:

  • Liaise effectively with consultants, engineers, general contractors, building owners and sales team members to understand the full scope of fire alarm needs and evaluate current and anticipated fire alarm system needs and installation options.
  • Complete preliminary surveys of existing buildings to determine fire alarm system needs in compliance with relevant building and fire codes.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of the bid and contract documents, engineered drawings, designs, and specifications to determine overall project requirements and identify any associated risk factors.
  • Employ problem-solving strategies and find solutions to product design issues.
  • Perform take-offs of design drawings, manually and/or by using software, to provide accurate quantities of materials, and labour hours required for each project.
  • Prepare estimates for complete and functional fire alarm systems based upon review of bid documents and site reviews for both engineered/specification and design build opportunities.
  • Successfully meet deadlines for project quote submittals.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all work including organize and maintain quotes and all supporting documents.
  • Maintain awareness of current building and fire codes and NFPA standards through internal and external technical resources.
  • Support other team members including administrative, operational, and field staff, in the safe, efficient delivery of superior service to our clients.

The successful candidate would bring with them a variety of competencies that would complement and strengthen the team including:

  • Skill in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications and ensuring technical standards are met.
  • Capacity to exercise independent judgement in various design and engineering tasks.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate client needs translating them into solutions and sales.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision to help deliver projects on time and to expected quality standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, and work well across a variety of stakeholders including architects, engineers, contractors, technicians, and clients.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; and Revit.
  • Ability to support the safe execution of high-quality work.

Our preferred experience and training credentials for this role are noted below, however all combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  • 3-5 years experience with fire alarm or construction electrical estimating.
  • Experience or familiarity in the fire protection and/or construction industry would be considered an asset.
  • Post secondary training in a technical discipline or trades certification.
  • Post secondary training in Fire Protection Engineering, Electrical Technology, or journey person certification as a Red Seal Construction Electrician would be considered an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of the relevant and applicable national and local building and fire codes and NFPA would be considered an asset.
  • Valid drivers license.
