Come Grow with Us! Forsite is actively looking for a Project Manager & Planning Forester with strong communication and facilitation skills to support our clients across BC and Western Canada. The position can be remote or ideally based out of one of our offices in Kamloops or Salmon Arm, BC.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Operating within Forsite's Resource Management and Technology business area, the Planning Forester will work within a team of senior planners and forest analysts to develop and facilitate planning processes in response to a range of forest land management challenges - including forest stewardship, landscape resilience and wildfire risk management. This position will require extensive knowledge of forest legislation & policy and landscape level forest management and wildfire management concepts to provide focused, innovative, and meaningful solutions to our clients. A background in forest operations/silviculture would be a distinct asset.

You should have strong problem-solving and written communications skills and demonstrated ability in the facilitation and coordination of planning processes. Demonstrated experience in project management is important. Depending on the experience, interests and passions of the successful candidate, projects the Planning Forester may be involved with include Forest Landscape Plans, Integrated Resource Management Plans, Land Use Plans, Access Management Plans, Old Growth Management Strategies, Wildfire Management Plans, Climate Vulnerability Assessments, etc.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • A safety conscious attitude;
  • Post-secondary education with a natural resource management focus;
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience in the forest sector, ideally involving landscape scale forest management planning processes;
  • Registered or eligible to be registered as an RPF (BC or AB);
  • Experience facilitating or leading diverse groups;
  • Strong project management expertise;
  • Strong technical writing skills, formal training in technical writing an asset;
  • An understanding of forestry GIS datasets and timber supply modeling processes would be an asset;
  • Background in operational forest management and/or wildfire risk management would be an asset; and
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
