Job Title: Hydrotechnical Engineering SupportJob ID: PL33592189Location: Vancouver, BCOverview:The Engineer is a fully qualified and accredited engineering professional who applies theoretical and practical knowledge to provide engineering design, estimating, planning, and quality management services for low to medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time. What you will be doing:
  • This role requires experience with Hydrotechnical design, study or field assessment for hydroelectric facilities or for the management and planning of similar water resources works. This role differs from the Hydrotechnical – Hydraulics and Hydrotechnical – Hydrology roles in that the requirements are broader and may require skills in meteorology, hydrology, hydraulics, monitoring instrumentation, reservoir and river system operations, and more.
  • This position is needed to help with an increasing work load in capital project, asset management, strategic OMA work programs and Owners Engineer review work.
  • Provide Hydrotechnical engineering project support which may include design of water monitoring stations, data analyses, statistical interpretation, hydrologic and or hydraulic modelling, operational modelling for flood passage or generation optimization, downstream consequence assessment, GIS analyses or other tasks of a Hydrotechnical nature.
  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with the company's project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
  • Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
  • Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and the company's Design Practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.

  • Project work assignments may range from hydrologic modelling for Safety Evaluation Flood estimation, to hydraulic analyses for discharge facility rating curve updates, to downstream river modelling, to operational modelling, to owner's engineering. Candidates are encouraged to include any such modelling experience in their application.
What you must have:
  • University graduate in applied science or engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC
  • The company uses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology. You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius
  • Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards
  • Ability to use standard industry design/analysis software
  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
  • Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineers
  • Ability to manage design tasks including scope, schedule and cost
  • Ability to find engineering solutions that add value and to reach consensus
  • Ability to communicate efficiently including verbal and technical writing in the English language, analytical, interpersonal communications and presentation skills
Term: 12-month contract; most likely to extendThis role requires regular or occasional attendance at a company workplace(s) and as such will be subject to the company's Contractor Vaccination Policy.
