Mainland Infrastructure Group is hiring! We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety, and Environment Manager to join our team!

As the Health, Safety, and Environment Manager, you will be responsible to ensure that the employees of Mainland have the knowledge, tools and the support they need to manage the business from a safety perspective. They will assist in creating a working environment which maintains and improves employees' general health and safety, and in which people continue to grow, learn and contribute to the success of Mainland while ensuring compliance with all legislative and corporate requirements.

What you'll be doing:

  • Prepare and enforce policies and procedures to further establish the health and safety culture within the company
  • Develop, implement and maintain a company wide health and safety strategy that ensures compliance with applicable federal, provincial and local regulations and codes
  • Work with construction management team to manage and reduce workers compensation claims and ensure appropriate return to work, work transfer, and fit for duty programs
  • Support and lead as required, incident reporting and investigations and make recommendations for corrective action
  • Provide reports on health and safety issues, statistics and safety performance; work with management to improve areas of deficiencies
  • Develop and implement compliance audits of operations for all divisions to ensure company and regulatory compliance
  • Promote best practices relating to health and safety across the business ensuring consistency across the business
  • Support the bid teams to assist in bid process and client relationship activities as necessary
  • Manage the delivery of advice to management on health, safety and environmental issues
  • Advise management on health, safety and environmental issues providing information on applicable legislation and industry best practice
  • Support the environment team with the development and roll-out of best practices, procedures and systems
  • Work with construction management team to manage and reduce workers compensation claims and ensure appropriate return to work, work transfer, and fit for duty programs

What you'll need:

  • Minimum 5 years of safety related experience in construction, environmental, or compliance in BC/Western Canada
  • Minimum OFA Level 1; CRSP, NCSO or an equivalent health and safety designation is considered an asset
  • Degree in Health & Safety or equivalent in experience and training certificates (specifically knowledge of local H&S requirements and standards)
  • Experience in the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of HSE management systems, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to drive safety culture throughout an organisation
  • Strong Knowledge of Behaviour Based Safety
  • You work well with others, can communicate at all levels, and must have the commitment to identify, analyze and present solutions to issues in a constructive manner
  • Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies
  • Dynamic environment with multiple business lines requiring strategic approach to policy, procedure and team building
