VodaSafe is an exciting company working to transform the water rescue industry. We were awarded BC Tech's Startup of the Year at the Technology Impact Awards 2022 and were a top finalist for the Telus Stand With Owners competition.

Our first product, AquaEye®, is a hand-held scanning sonar device for waterfront rescue that was launched in 2019 and has been adopted by search and rescue organizations across North America and around the globe.

We are currently selling into 47 countries and want to provide more for our customers. That is why we are looking for a Software Product Manager who can lead the development of our integrated software product.

About the Role:

The Full-Stack Developer will report to the Director of Engineering and will be responsible for the development and execution and development of AquaEye software.

We are looking for a versatile and experienced Full-Stack Java/Python Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will not only possess strong technical skills in software development but also have a solid understanding of project management and product development processes. This role is pivotal in developing software integration and user applications for our handheld hardware solution, requiring seamless coordination between software and hardware teams.

They will also be responsible for managing how customers use and interact with AquaEye software, including UX design, customer insights research, and management of the development team.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years of experience in Full-Stack Software Development, preferably in IoT/hardware-integrated software systems. They will have strong people management skills and thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. They will excel at communicating vision to management and coaching mentees.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of software integration solutions to seamlessly integrate the software with our handheld hardware solution.
  • Design and implement user-friendly applications for operating the handheld system and accessing data, ensuring alignment with product requirements.
  • Utilize project management knowledge to plan, prioritize, and execute software development tasks effectively, adhering to project timelines and milestones.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to understand hardware specifications and constraints, facilitating smooth hardware-software integration.
  • Apply product development principles to contribute to the overall product roadmap and strategy, ensuring that software solutions meet market needs and user expectations.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices, while also overseeing code reviews and providing guidance to junior developers.
  • Conduct thorough testing to ensure software reliability, performance, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Proactively identify and address technical challenges and opportunities for innovation in software development for handheld devices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of skills and experience
  • Strong understanding of software development cycle, agile frameworks, and how to manage a development sprint
  • Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer with proficiency in both Java and Python.
  • Strong understanding of software development principles and methodologies, coupled with project management expertise.
  • Experience with hardware-software integration and handheld device development is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to multiple stakeholders and clients.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Strong decision-making skills to provide quick inputs and resolve issues and escalations.
  • Demonstrates an interest and enthusiasm in the product, industry and mission of our company
  • Comfortable in and around open water

  • Salary range: $120,000-$160,000 (evaluation is based on previous experience and knowledge)
