Build a Career Where Technical Expertise Meets Business

Are you an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), engineering or technology graduate, or experienced industrial professional interested in combining your technical knowledge with a rewarding career in sales?

Are you highly responsive, customer-focused, comfortable working with numbers, and an excellent communicator?

At SPS West, we're looking for a motivated, technically curious, and detail-oriented Technical Sales Specialist who enjoys solving problems, working with people, and helping industrial customers find the right equipment for their applications.

This is an opportunity to develop expertise in industrial distribution, manufacturing, instrumentation, and process technologies while building valuable skills in technical sales, customer relationships, and commercial decision-making.

You don't need to choose between your technical interests and a career in business. Here, you can develop both.

The Opportunity

As a Technical Sales Specialist, you'll work directly with industrial customers, manufacturers, and suppliers to understand equipment requirements, identify suitable products, prepare quotations, and deliver practical solutions.

SPS West specializes in the selection, configuration, sourcing, and distribution of industrial instrumentation and process equipment manufactured by established suppliers.

You'll apply your technical knowledge to interpreting customer specifications, evaluating manufacturer product options, and recommending suitable equipment.

This is a technical sales and industrial distribution position, not an engineering design role.

You'll gain exposure to industrial instrumentation, process measurement, manufacturing operations, equipment specifications, and supply chains while developing the skills to become a trusted technical resource for customers.

What You'll Do

Technical Product Selection & Applications

  • Review customer requirements, technical specifications, drawings, datasheets, and product documentation to identify suitable industrial equipment.

  • Interpret customer application requirements and evaluate products against manufacturer specifications.

  • Select and configure industrial instrumentation and equipment using manufacturer-approved options and technical documentation.

  • Research products, compare technical specifications, and identify suitable alternatives.

  • Collaborate with manufacturers and suppliers to obtain technical information, product recommendations, pricing, availability, and lead times.

  • Continuously expand your knowledge of industrial instrumentation, process technologies, equipment applications, and manufacturing operations.

Customer Relationships & Technical Sales

  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries, technical questions, and quotation requests.

  • Build strong customer relationships through responsiveness, clear communication, and reliable follow-through.

  • Prepare accurate and competitive quotations involving pricing, gross margins, markups, discounts, quantities, and unit conversions.

  • Help customers understand product features, specifications, and available options.

  • Identify customer needs, recommend practical product solutions, and recognize opportunities for additional business.

  • Proactively follow up on quotations, customer requests, and sales opportunities.

Industrial Distribution & Sales Operations

  • Source industrial products and components from manufacturers and suppliers.

  • Coordinate customer orders, ensuring accuracy in product specifications, part numbers, configurations, pricing, quantities, and delivery requirements.

  • Work closely with sales, purchasing, warehouse, manufacturers, and suppliers to resolve issues and meet customer expectations.

  • Maintain accurate customer records, quotations, and order information in company systems.

  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and exceptional customer service.

  • Take ownership of customer requests and follow through until the job is done.

Previous technical sales or industrial distribution experience is an asset, but candidates with strong technical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a genuine interest in technical sales are encouraged to apply.

A professional engineering designation is not required for this position.
