Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to provide financial accounting, analysis, and reporting support within a large and complex organization.
This role will support a broad range of finance and accounting functions, including financial reporting, general ledger accounting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, grant and revenue reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, audit support, and month-end/year-end close activities.
This is not solely an FP&A-focused position. Candidates should have a strong foundation in financial accounting and reporting, with hands-on experience preparing journal entries, performing detailed reconciliations, analyzing financial statements, and producing accurate financial reports under tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and financial statement notes.
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare and process journal entries.
- Analyze financial statement variances and identify the underlying causes.
- Perform balance sheet, cash flow, net debt, and accumulated surplus analysis.
- Support month-end and year-end financial close activities.
- Reconcile revenue accounts and restricted funding receipts.
- Assist with operating and restricted-fund accounting.
- Prepare variance analyses and complex financial reports.
- Support grant and restricted-fund reporting.
- Monitor deferred revenue and grant balances, including expiring funding.
- Assist with fixed-asset and capital-revenue accounting.
- Support payroll, banking, and balance-sheet account reconciliations.
- Support subledger interfaces, billings, and remittances.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Prepare supporting schedules, worksheets, reconciliations, and documentation for auditors.
- Support Chart of Accounts maintenance.
- Assist with time-sensitive financial reporting and regulatory reporting deliverables.
- Ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.
- Work collaboratively with finance teams and stakeholders to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
- Manage multiple priorities while meeting strict reporting deadlines.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive financial/accounting experience.
- CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA designation.
- Strong background in financial accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience analyzing financial statements and financial data.
- Strong General Ledger (GL) and account reconciliation experience.
- Hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close.
- Experience preparing and processing journal entries.
- Strong variance analysis and financial analysis skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with financial systems and database applications in a large or complex organization.
- Ability to prepare complex financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight, time-sensitive deadlines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
- Canadian public-sector accounting.
- Healthcare finance or accounting.
- Provincial government or public-sector organizations.
