Our Client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health & Safety Coordinator to support the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs across multiple construction projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Coordinator will work closely with project teams, site supervision, and workers to ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable provincial legislation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture, conducting site inspections, supporting incident investigations, delivering training, and ensuring that all projects maintain the highest standards of workplace health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits on active construction projects to identify hazards, assess compliance, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Construction Projects Regulation, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of project-specific safety plans, hazard assessments, and safe work procedures.
  • Support incident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
  • Facilitate worker orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and ongoing safety training initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, records, statistics, and reports in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and Forepersons to promote safe work practices and address safety concerns proactively.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and support committee initiatives.
  • Track and monitor safety certifications, training requirements, and worker qualifications.
  • Assist with WSIB claims management, return-to-work programs, and modified duty coordination when required.
  • Support COR®, ISO, and other health and safety management system initiatives as applicable.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with site-specific safety requirements and company expectations.
  • Stay current with legislative changes, industry best practices, and emerging safety trends within the construction industry.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of health and safety experience within the construction industry, preferably in electrical, commercial, institutional, industrial, or high-rise residential construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario OHSA and Construction Projects Regulations.
  • Understanding of construction and electrical safety hazards and risk mitigation strategies is considered an asset.
  • Experience conducting site inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations.
  • Working knowledge of WSIB processes and return-to-work programs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and digital safety management platforms.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with workers, supervisors, project teams, and clients.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and ability to travel to project sites throughout the GTA.

Required Certifications

  • Ministry of Labour Approved Working at Heights
  • Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification (Part I & II preferred)
  • Standard First Aid & CPR
  • WHMIS
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • CRSP, CHSC, NCSO, or working toward a recognized safety designation.
  • Experience working with electrical contractors, general contractors, or multi-site construction operations.
  • COR® auditing experience.
  • Knowledge of client-specific safety programs and contractor prequalification platforms.
