Schedule:
- On-Call, Days Only
- Typical Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, as required
- Short-notice and same-day assignments may have different start times
Location: Downtown Toronto – University Ave. & College St.
Employment Type: On-Call Contract – No Guaranteed Hours
Important: This is an occasional, on-call position with no guaranteed hours or regular weekly schedule. Assignments are based entirely on the client's coverage needs.
Some assignments may be scheduled weeks or months in advance, while others may be offered on very short notice. For example, you could receive a call as early as 6:00 AM requesting that you report to work by 11:00 AM that same day. There may also be several weeks or months when no assignments are available. We are looking for experienced Maintenance Technicians who are comfortable with this type of unpredictable schedule and can reliably travel to downtown Toronto when assignments are accepted.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily building rounds and record equipment readings
- Complete equipment start-up and shutdown procedures and address issues as they arise
- Inspect, operate, and maintain mechanical and electrical systems, including boilers, chillers, HVAC units, pumps, generators, UPS, and life safety systems
- Complete preventive and demand maintenance, including filter changes, belt inspections and replacements, and greasing bearings
- Perform general repairs, including faucet replacements, clearing drains and sumps, and resetting breakers
- Complete minor paint touch-ups and mechanical room clean-up
- Respond to tenant and client requests and building emergencies
- Report unsafe conditions or unusual events to the supervisor
- Assist or supervise contractors and external service providers as required
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Perform additional maintenance duties as assigned
- Previous facilities maintenance and building operations experience
- Proven experience working as a Maintenance Technician
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools
- Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
- Working knowledge of common building systems, equipment, and appliances
- Strong manual dexterity and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when required
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with clients, tenants, management, and team members
- High school diploma or equivalent
- HVAC or building maintenance certification is an asset
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) designation is preferred but not required
- This is an on-call contract position with no guaranteed hours
- There is no regular weekly schedule
- Assignments may range from short-term coverage to several weeks or months
- Some assignments may be scheduled well in advance, while others may be offered with only a few hours' notice
- There may be extended periods when no work is available
- Candidates must be comfortable with an unpredictable on-call schedule
- Candidates must be able to respond promptly when contacted about available work
- Once an assignment is accepted, candidates must be available for the agreed-upon dates and duration
- Reliable transportation to downtown Toronto is required
