IMPORTANT: This is an occasional, on-call contract position with no guaranteed hours or regular schedule. Assignments are offered based on the client's coverage needs. Some assignments may be scheduled several weeks or months in advance, while others may involve a call as early as 6:00 a.m. requesting that you report to work by 11:00 a.m. that same day. There may also be periods of several weeks or months when no work is available.
We are building a pool of experienced Maintenance Technicians who are interested in occasional on-call assignments in downtown Toronto. Candidates must have previous maintenance technician experience clearly listed on their resume and be able to travel reliably to the work location. This role supports daily building operations, equipment checks, and general facility upkeep within a professional environment. .
Location: Downtown Toronto (University Ave. & College St.)
Schedule: On-Call, Days Only — typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, as required. Short-notice and same-day assignments may occasionally have a different start time.
Pay: $22.00 – $23.50 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily rounds and record readings for all equipment, including start-up and shutdown procedures, and address issues as they arise
- Inspect, operate, and maintain mechanical and electrical systems (boilers, chillers, HVAC units, pumps, generators, UPS, life safety systems)
- Complete preventive and demand maintenance tasks such as filter changes, belt inspections/replacements, and greasing bearings
- Carry out general repairs including faucet replacements, clearing drains/sumps, and resetting breakers
- Support building upkeep with minor paint touch-ups and mechanical room clean-up
- Respond to tenant/client requests and emergencies; report unsafe conditions or unusual events to the supervisor
- Assist or supervise contractors and external service providers as required
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance and building operations
- Proven experience as a maintenance technician
- Mechanically inclined with experience using hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools
- Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
- Working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and building systems
- Strong manual dexterity and problem-solving abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC or building maintenance certification is an asset
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) is preferred but not required
- Demonstrated accountability, judgment, and decision-making skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when required
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to interact professionally with clients, tenants, management, and team members
- This is an on-call contract opportunity and does not provide guaranteed hours or a regular weekly schedule.
- Assignments may range from short-term coverage to several weeks or months, depending on the client's needs.
