Phlebotomist / Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) – Multiple Winnipeg Locations
Fuze HR Solutions is currently recruiting experienced Phlebotomists / Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) for multiple urgent temporary and contract opportunities with a well-established Canadian healthcare and laboratory services organization in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Our client provides diagnostic laboratory and patient-care services through a network of community-based laboratory and health service centres. Due to immediate staffing requirements, we are seeking experienced professionals who are qualified to perform phlebotomy and can support busy patient-service locations across Winnipeg.
These opportunities require candidates with direct, hands-on experience who can become productive quickly following training on the client's internal processes.
Current Opportunities
We are recruiting for 6 immediate openings across multiple Winnipeg locations, including:
  • River East / Northeast Winnipeg
  • Crossroads / Regent area
  • Seasons / Southwest Winnipeg
  • Various Winnipeg laboratory and health service centre locations
Available schedules include:
  • Full-time: Monday to Friday, various hours, up to 37.5 hours per week
  • Part-time afternoons: Monday to Friday, approximately 20–22.5 hours per week
  • Saturday mornings: Approximately 7:15/7:30 AM to 12:15/12:30 PM
  • Contract opportunities of approximately 11–14 months
  • Other schedules may become available based on operational requirements
Start dates are ASAP.
Where operationally possible, the client intends to keep individuals assigned to the same location rather than regularly moving them between locations.
Responsibilities
Depending on the location and assignment, responsibilities may include:
  • Performing venous and capillary blood collection
  • Providing professional and compassionate patient service throughout the collection process
  • Reviewing laboratory requisitions for completeness and accuracy
  • Performing routine specimen collection procedures
  • Preparing, handling and processing specimens according to established procedures
  • Following appropriate procedures for handling potentially infectious materials
  • Maintaining accurate patient and laboratory records
  • Supporting patient flow within the laboratory and health service centre
  • Communicating professionally with patients, healthcare professionals and onsite management
  • Following established quality, privacy, infection-control and safety procedures
  • Performing other related laboratory and patient-service duties as required

Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet the client's qualification and experience requirements.
You must have at least one of the following:
  • A recognized Phlebotomist Certificate, OR
  • Graduation from a certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) program, OR
  • If foreign-trained, relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Medical Laboratory Assistant
In addition:
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct, hands-on relevant experience is required
  • Candidates must be qualified to perform phlebotomy in Manitoba
  • Foreign-trained candidates must have recent relevant MLT/MLA experience, with their last applicable experience being within the past 3 months
  • Direct blood collection/phlebotomy experience is required
  • Strong patient/customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced healthcare team
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, laboratory requisitions and testing processes is an asset
Please note: New graduates whose only relevant experience is their clinical practicum will not meet the client's minimum experience requirement.
Mandatory Background & Compliance Requirements
Due to the nature of these healthcare assignments, candidates must satisfy the client's background-screening requirements. Required before starting Candidates must provide a satisfactory:
  • Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
Child & Adult Abuse Registry Checks
Candidates are also required to complete:
  • Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Adult Abuse Registry Check
If the final Child and Adult Abuse Registry results are still pending, candidates may be able to proceed by providing:
  • Proof that the applicable registry check has been applied and paid for; and
  • A completed client self-declaration form
Given the urgency of these positions and the processing time associated with background screening, preference will be given to candidates who already have current checks available.
Candidates are responsible for initiating and paying for the required checks. Fuze HR will assist with coordinating the applicable onboarding requirements. References
Selected candidates will also be required to provide 3 professional references, ideally including at least 1 supervisory reference.

Compensation Compensation will follow the client's established Technician wage structure. The current wage grid begins at $25/hour, with additional wage levels based on the client's established structure.
Final applicable hourly rate will be discussed with qualified candidates during the recruitment process.
