Position Summary
As a Personal Support Worker (PSW) at Averra Care, you will play a critical role in supporting clients with their daily living needs, enhancing their quality of life, and promoting independence.
You will work in a variety of settings including:
- Long-Term Care (LTC) Homes
- Retirement Homes
- Private In-Home Care
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs):
- Bathing, grooming, dressing
- Toileting and incontinence care
- Oral hygiene
- Support mobility and safe transfers (Hoyer, pivot transfers)
Companionship & Emotional Support
- Provide meaningful companionship and conversation
- Engage clients in cognitive and recreational activities
- Support dementia care and behavior management
Home Support
- Light housekeeping (laundry, dishes, tidying)
- Meal preparation and feeding assistance
- Ensure a safe and clean living environment
Health & Safety
- Monitor and report changes in client condition
- Follow care plans and documentation protocols
- Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPAC) standards
Documentation & Communication
- Complete accurate shift notes and reports
- Communicate effectively with families and supervisors
- Participate in care planning when required
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
- PSW Certificate (Ontario-recognized program)
- Valid CPR & First Aid Certification
- Up-to-date immunizations (including TB test)
- Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
- Ability to travel within London and surrounding areas
Preferred
- Experience in LTC or home care settings
- Dementia care experience
- Knowledge of lifts and transfer equipment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
