As a Construction Engineering Technologist with Kiwi Newton Group, you will play a critical role in transforming construction plans into reality through precise layout, surveying, site coordination, and quality assurance. You will work closely with engineers, architects, project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and field teams to ensure all project phases align with design intent, technical standards, and safety expectations.
This position offers a dynamic mix of office and field work, providing hands-on experience and direct involvement in the successful delivery of ICI construction projects.

Position Details
- Location: 41 Massey Rd, Guelph, ON N1H 7M6
- Schedule: Monday to Friday (hours vary based on project schedules)
- Typical Shift: Day shift, generally 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Work Environment: On-site with regular travel to active construction sites
- Travel Requirement: This role requires periodic travel to construction projects throughout Ontario. Flexibility to travel as needed is essential.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Site Superintendents, Project Managers, Engineers, Subcontractors, and internal field teams
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform accurate layout and surveying work for structural, architectural, and civil components
- Operate Total Station equipment for layout, staking, elevations, and field measurements
- Verify elevations, alignments, and positioning in accordance with design drawings and project tolerances
- Coordinate survey data and layout points with project drawings to ensure accuracy and consistency across site activities
- Inspect on-site work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and engineering standards
- Read, interpret, and review structural, civil, architectural, and shop drawings
- Ensure field activities comply with applicable building codes, specifications, and engineering standards
- Support Site Superintendents with quality control, site coordination, and project organization
- Maintain professional working relationships with owners, engineers, architects, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
- Communicate effectively with the Project Management team to support workflow and resolve site-related issues
- Promote job site safety, identify hazards, and support safe work practices
- Maintain organized, professional, and efficient job sites and field offices
- Utilize CAD software, Total Station equipment, and digital construction tools to support layout and planning
- Assist with field documentation, quantity verification, measurements, and reporting
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or post-secondary education in Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field
- C.E.T. or C.Tech certification considered a strong asset
- Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract (within the last 3 years)
- Willingness and ability to travel periodically throughout Ontario to support active construction projects
- 3–5 years of experience in construction surveying, layout, or construction engineering
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural, civil, and architectural drawings
- Hands-on experience operating Total Station equipment for construction layout and verification
- Working knowledge of CAD software and digital construction tools
- Ability to perform layout and surveying tasks within tight tolerances (±5 mm to ±10 mm)
- Experience transferring and coordinating survey data between Total Station equipment, CAD software, and project platforms
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven problem-solving skills in active construction environments
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Understanding of construction methods, materials, equipment, and project sequencing
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
- Familiarity with Procore and/or Sage Timberline considered an asset
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical site duties
