Job Description

The Locomotive Mechanic will work independently or in small team environments repairing and servicing various types of locomotives.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Inspects locomotive, diagnose issues, make recommendations as to course of action and repair/recondition as needed
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections on locomotives in accordance with company and regulatory standards
  • Track all inspections and repair/maintenance work performed; completes all required logs
  • Repair and replace components including engines, braking systems, wheels, bearings, couplers, fuel systems and other components.
  • Perform major mechanical repairs and engine overhauls.
  • Interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Maintains and cares for all work areas, vehicles, and tools used to perform the locomotive and equipment servicing

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience in heavy equipment repair.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull a minimum of fifty (50) pounds and to maneuver in/through/around equipment easily and safely
  • Ability to meet Workplace Safety & Health standards
  • Proficient with tools, test equipment and safe shop practices
  • General computer skills with ability to learn new processes
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Ability to work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to address emergency service problems at any time of day or night

Education & Experience

  • Diesel, automotive or heavy equipment experience.
  • Experience working in heavy industrial environments and with similar equipment
