Overview
The Assembly Lead Hand leads a crew of 3–9 General Labourers in fabricating and assembling doors for modular data center enclosures. This includes sheeting steel/aluminum frames, insulating, and applying gasketing. The role emphasizes leadership, quality control, safety compliance, and efficiency.
DAY IN THE LIFE…
- Organize and lead daily assembly tasks for the crew.
- Oversee fabrication and assembly of doors, including steel/aluminum sheeting, insulation, and gasketing.
- Ensure quality standards are met for all components; conduct inspections and address issues immediately.
- Train and guide labourers on proper assembly techniques and safe work practices.
- Troubleshoot assembly issues and escalate complex problems to the Site Construction Supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with PTW safety standards and complete hazard assessments.
- Follow inventory management procedures for materials and tools.
- Support off-hours work (weekends/evenings) as required.
- Drive efficiency improvements and suggest process changes to reduce cycle times.
- Track progress and communicate updates to the Supervisor.
- Provide hands-on support during high-demand periods.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience leading a crew or team in a construction, assembly, or fabrication environment (minimum 1–2 years).
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, delegate tasks, and maintain accountability for team performance.
- Experience in assembly or fabrication environments.
- Knowledge of steel and aluminum materials and assembly techniques.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Experience with power tools and safe operation.
- Ability to follow instructions and perform manual labour tasks.
- Strong work ethic and ability to communicate effectively.
- CSA-approved safety boots and valid driver's license.
