Overview
The Construction Lead Hand leads a crew of 3–6 General Labourers in installing and finishing modular data center units. Responsibilities include hanging doors, applying gasketing, and ensuring proper fit and finish. This role requires strong leadership, hands-on problem-solving, and a commitment to quality, safety, inventory control, and continuous improvement.
DAY IN THE LIFE…
- Lead and coordinate daily tasks for the construction crew.
- Hang doors and apply gasketing to modular units per specifications.
- Ensure quality standards are upheld at every stage; perform inspections and correct deficiencies promptly.
- Train and guide labourers on proper techniques and safe work practices.
- Resolve on-the-spot issues and escalate complex problems to the Site Construction Supervisor.
- Ensure strict adherence to PTW safety protocols and complete daily hazard assessments.
- Follow inventory management procedures for materials and tools.
- Support off-hours work (weekends/evenings) as required.
- Drive efficiency improvements and suggest process changes to reduce cycle times.
- Maintain accurate progress reporting and communicate updates to the Supervisor.
- Assist with hands-on work during peak demand or critical challenges.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience leading a crew or team in a construction, assembly, or fabrication environment (minimum 1–2 years).
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, delegate tasks, and maintain accountability for team performance.
- Proven experience in construction or modular assembly environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Hands-on problem-solving ability.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Experience with power tools and safe operation.
- Ability to follow instructions and perform manual labour tasks.
- Strong work ethic and ability to communicate effectively.
- CSA-approved safety boots and valid driver's license.
