POSITION FUNCTION:
The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) provides childcare and educational programming for children and parents/caregivers enrolled in the program and works with the staff team to deliver a high quality, age-appropriate program based on the MOSAIC Play Based Curriculum.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be familiar with MOSAICS vision, mission, values, strategic plan, and integrated client service delivery approach, program and/or project proposals and contracts, and your role in achieving the goals and contractual outcomes of the department
- Model the Early Childhood Educators of BC (ECEBC) goals of best practice in an early childhood program and commit to ECEBC Code of Ethics
- Unless law requires disclosure, maintain confidentiality of all information related to
the program, the children, their families, and staff Operations - Plan and implement developmentally and culturally appropriate activities forchildrens programs that are child-centered and conform to MOSAIC childcare policy and procedure
- Include experiences in programming that reflect a variety of cultures and valuesystems, and encourage children to practice self-help techniques
- Establish a daily schedule that incorporates child-directed activities, care routines, transition times, and a balance of active/quiet, individual/group, and inside/outside activities
- Develop a variety of visual and hands-on materials and teaching techniques that include modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing
- Organize and regularly evaluate the childcare space and all equipment and materials
- Engage in a variety of parent/caregiver specific activities
- Language appropriate orientation to new families
- Make resource information available to the parents/caregivers, and inform the manager or coordinator of any concerns that may need follow-up or referral
- Forward child-specific information from charts and observations to the Manager or Coordinator
- Discuss child or parent/caregiver related problems with the manager or coordinator andmake recommendations about possible solutions before approaching the parents/caregivers
- Remain current with CARF standards relevant to the program, project, or service
- Maintain and add to knowledge of early childhood education and advocacy
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge:
Programming and childcare issues; BC Childcare Services Policy and Standards manual; Canadian childcare standards, development needs of children, needs and interests of children from diverse communities who face barriers as immigrants/refugees, and specific knowledge related to the function or the focus of the program, project, or service
Education/Certifications: Completion of high school, Early Childhood Education Certificate, and BC license to practice, or equivalent Some positions also require the Infant and Toddler Certificate Food Safe Certificate an asset Sign Language Certificate an asset Special Needs Certificate and License an asset
Experience
More than one year of experience in evaluating and developing curriculum materials, providing activities, and facilitating play-based activities for children and their parents/caregivers; work with an immigrant population and/or diverse cultural backgrounds, and/or comparable education or other program, or project specialties.
Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check required

COMPENSATION: $26.63 - $27.19 per hour
HOURS:
Part-time (3 hours per week), Saturdays
Start date: January 3, 2026
