Thinkpath Engineering Services is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to fill an opportunity in the Scarborough, ON area.
Job Description:
The Manufacturing Engineer will lead the design review, estimation, and launch of production processes, ensuring that manufacturing meets customer specifications and industry standards. This role involves overseeing sample creation, optimizing manufacturing processes, and ensuring efficient, cost-effective production. While quality management is a secondary function, a strong quality-focused mindset is essential to succeed in this role.
Design Review & Estimation:
- Collaborate with design and costing teams to review product designs for manufacturability and cost efficiency.
- Prepare and review cost estimates, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and industry standards.
- Work closely with sales, costing, and production teams to ensure designs meet customer requirements and are economically viable.
Manufacturing:
- Lead the production launch by developing and optimizing manufacturing processes, identifying and procuring appropriate tooling and equipment.
- Troubleshoot process, material, or equipment issues to minimize downtime and recommend solutions to plant management.
- Promote and support LEAN Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement an incentive program for production.
- Create and maintain work instructions, charts, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, material handling, and machine utilization.
- Conduct time studies to establish production rates, recommend standards, and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide technical support and training to production personnel as required.
- Take ownership of the design, development, and procurement of testing equipment, fixtures, and production tools.
- Assist in job scheduling to optimize manufacturing efficiency.
- Review, improve, and maintain the plant maintenance program to ensure equipment reliability.
Sample Oversight:
- Review technical requirements and assist with estimating, costing, procuring, and manufacturing of samples.
- Coordinate with Costing, Sales, Production teams, and customers to ensure samples meet design criteria, specifications, and cost-effectiveness.
- Obtain written approvals for sample preparation and maintain related records.
- Follow ISO standards in Design and Development processes.
- Approve “first off” of all patterns to ensure they meet approved samples or specifications.
- Verify that material yields in costing files match calculations.
- Prepare and digitize patterns/cut files using AutoCAD or other approved software.
- Support ISO/QS 9001 procedures, including maintaining internal and external drawings through document control.
Quality & other responsibilities as a Secondary Function:
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the quality system to ensure adherence to documented procedures and industry standards.
- Assist in internal and external audits, calibration system maintenance, and quality management of incoming materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Investigate quality concerns, recommend corrective actions, and ensure issues are appropriately dispositioned.
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams on quality matters.
- Provide quality-related inputs to the Costing department, purchasing, and production.
- Understand and apply MIL/PIA specifications as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree or Diploma in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 1-3+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably in textile manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing engineering principles, LEAN manufacturing, and quality control methods.
- Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of ISO standards and experience with audit processes is an asset.
- Parachute knowledge is an asset.
- Detail-oriented with strong project management skills.
