About the Role

The vCIO is a strategic technology partner to our clients. You will guide organizations through IT planning, budgeting, governance, risk, compliance, and modernization initiatives. This role combines high-level business consulting with deep IT understanding, ensuring clients get maximum value and clear roadmaps from their technology investments. You will work closely with Account Managers, Technical Leads, and Executives on both sides of the relationship.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic IT Leadership

  • Develop and maintain multi-year IT roadmaps tailored to each clients business goals.
  • Lead quarterly business reviews (QBRs) and executive-level technology discussions.
  • Translate client business objectives into actionable technical strategies and investments.
  • Advise clients on emerging technologies, digital transformation, cloud strategy, and security posture.

Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC)

  • Establish and maintain IT governance frameworks aligned with industry standards (NIST, ISO, CIS, SOC2).
  • Conduct IT risk assessments and create mitigation plans.
  • Ensure clients remain compliant with regulatory requirements (PIPEDA, PCI-DSS, HIPAA if applicable).
  • Work with internal teams to maintain documentation, policies, and standards.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Develop annual IT budgets and forecast technology lifecycle costs.
  • Build ROI and TCO models for major IT initiatives or infrastructure refreshes.
  • Review and optimize licensing, vendor contracts, and recurring service costs.

Client Relationship & Advisory

  • Serve as the primary strategic IT advisor for a portfolio of client executives.
  • Present data-driven insights, recommendations, and reports.
  • Support Account Managers by identifying new opportunities that add client value (not sales-pushing).
  • Manage escalations from a business and process perspective.

Cybersecurity & Architecture Oversight

  • Review and guide cybersecurity maturity plans.
  • Partner with SOC, NOC, and technical teams to ensure alignment with security best practices.
  • Participate in the creation of business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

Operational Alignment

  • Ensure MSP service deliverables align with each clients business-critical needs.
  • Track and report on SLA performance, service gaps, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with project managers on scoping, approval, and prioritization of client initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years in IT leadership, IT consulting, or MSP client strategy roles.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud solutions (M365, Azure, AWS), networking, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience with GRC frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to speak to C-level stakeholders.
  • Ability to create roadmaps, budgets, and strategic recommendations with clarity and confidence.
  • Strong problem-solving and business acumen ability to connect technology with business outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a Managed Services Provider.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, ITIL, PMP, or Azure/M365 designations.
  • Familiarity with RMM/PSA tools (ConnectWise, etc.).
  • Background leading QBRs, audits, and IT strategy sessions.
