Job Title: Firmware Engineer

Join our client as a Firmware Engineer and be a part of an innovative team that makes a significant impact in the IoT sector. We are looking for an experienced engineer who will develop and maintain firmware for advanced embedded products. This role demands deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to support mission-critical systems in a fast-paced environment. Your contributions will directly influence transportation, supply chain, and maritime operations on a global scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for proprietary products.
• Translate software requirements into well-defined tasks and deliver timely solutions.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to ensure product reliability and performance.
• Enhance and support in-house development and debugging tools.
• Implement and optimize low-power algorithms to maximize efficiency.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
• 5+ years of professional experience in embedded software development.
• Proficiency in C programming.
• Experience with ARM and/or Intel-based microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
• Knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UART/RS232, RS485, I2C, SPI, BLE.
• Ability to interpret hardware schematics and debug using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Proficiency with version control and issue tracking systems (e.g., GitHub, Jira).

Assets:

• Python programming experience.
• Knowledge of STM32 family microcontrollers.
• Experience with Free RTOS for task management.
• Experience in bare-metal and wireless applications.
• Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills.
• Collaborative mindset.

Work Environment

This position requires working fully onsite, 5 days a week, at one of our hubs located in Ottawa, ON.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Ottawa, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
