The Opportunity:
BluMetric Environmental is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with expertise in environmental professional consulting services to enhance our dynamic Professional Services team of consulting engineers, hydrogeologists, and scientists. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Director of Operations, this pivotal role within the Professional Services team is responsible for advancing and standardizing project management practices, strengthening organizational capacity to increase effectiveness and efficiency, and providing Project Management oversight of key projects to ensure proper monitoring of project health and risks. Additional responsibilities include preparing the company for the integration of a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, guiding, and supporting new project managers, and ensuring all project engagements are managed with optimal efficiency and quality. This is an existing vacancy within the organization.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete lifecycle management of key projects within the companys portfolio, encompassing strategic planning, tactical execution, and delivery to ensure alignment with corporate objectives and client expectations within agreed scope.
- Lead the development, refinement, and implementation of project management processes and best practices across the Professional Services team, focusing on continuous improvement, standardization, and process excellence.
- Plan and manage project activities throughout all phases, including resource allocation, scheduling, documentation, budgeting, and quality assurance, utilizing advanced project management methodologies and resource management tools to optimize project performance and efficiency.
- Build and enhance organizational capacity by developing and delivering targeted training programs, including the creation of a Project Management Excellence initiative, to upskill and establish clear performance expectations for all Professional Services project managers.
- Prepare the organization for the implementation of a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, ensuring project teams are equipped with the necessary training, tools, documentation standards, and reporting capabilities for a seamless transition.
- Design and implement formal mechanisms for tracking project progress including project health and risks, including regular status and escalation reports; communicate updates to stakeholders through structured communications plans and scheduled meetings.
- Conduct stakeholder engagement sessions, forums, and feedback loops to capture input and expectations, integrating insights into project plans and ensuring stakeholder alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Apply and enforce a structured change management program to effectively manage scope, mitigate risks, and respond to evolving project requirements.
- Support in monitoring and controlling project costs, ensuring adherence to approved budgets, and proactively secure additional budget or change orders when necessary to maintain project delivery standards.
- Support subcontractor program in overseeing and verifying performance of third-party service providers, including sub-consultants, sub-contractors, and specialists, to ensure contractual compliance and value delivery.
- Conduct comprehensive project reviews and post-mortems to identify lessons learned, drive continuous improvement, and implement actionable recommendations for future engagements.
- Mentor, train, and support the development of new and existing project managers across BluMetrics Professional Services team, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and professional growth.
Qualifications, Education, and Skills:
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing professional services projects or technical project delivery.
- Certification as a Project Manager Professional (PMP), or equivalent.
- Post-Secondary Education in Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, Geosciences or Environmental Science would be an asset.
- Demonstrated success in the execution of project management methods and project delivery.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), scheduling and schedule analysis, cost estimating and cost control, budget development, reporting, and record/ document control.
- Proven experience in managing multi-discipline project teams in a consulting environment.
- Proficiency in the use of a commercial enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
- Work within a professional consulting services-based organization would be considered an asset.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong business acumen.
- Proficient in common desktop packages, i.e. MS Office suite of tools, Word, Excel, and project scheduling tools.
- Bilingualism in English and French would be an asset.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
