The Role

The Project Coordinator Student works directly with the Project Managers to ensure the project objectives, policies, and procedures are completed in accordance with company policy and contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

The Project Coordinator Students duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Review and submit documents to the General Contractor and ensure all of Dilfo sub-trades have the necessary information; maintain communication with general contractor, sub-trades and suppliers.
  • Review shop-drawing submissions from suppliers and sub-trades, confirm requirements for equipment, and submit to General Contractor.
  • Assist Project Managers with scheduling start-up and training, maintaining job costing, and administration and filing of documents.
  • Complete change orders, follow up with suppliers for pricing, obtain submittals from sub-trades.
  • Maintain project files (physical and electronic), including shop drawings submittals, RFIs, site instructions and associated schedule logs.
  • Manage, update and maintain client software (PCL PDC, ProCore, etc)
  • Prepare close out documentation, including operating and maintenance manuals, as-builts, test reports and commissioning documents.
  • Comply with all company health and safety policies and procedures.

Dimensions:

Value of projects $1,000 - $30M (approximate)

Length of projects: 1 month to 3 years

Number of projects: 1-10 projects at any one time depending on the size of the job

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program related to the construction field, such as construction management, construction science, mechanical engineering etc.
  • Prior experience working in a team environment
  • Prior experience working with a construction company would be considered an asset
  • Ability to obtain a Reliability Clearance

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand construction documents such as drawings, specifications, and equipment shop drawings
  • Understanding the construction process and the timing of activities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Basic knowledge of various mechanical systems
  • Ability to review and analyze drawings and submissions from multiple trades

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Manual dexterity; specifically typing
  • Travel to job sites within Ottawa
  • Climbing stairs, walking, carrying, lifting
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment
  • Working indoors and outdoors, in a construction environment
  • Standing and walking for long periods of time
  • Bending, crouching, and climbing. You may be required to use ladders or enter small spaces in this position.
