About this role:

This role is ideal for an experienced, confident, and resourceful designer who thrives in a collaborative but autonomous environment. You'll be working closely with the Principal Designer to bring projects to life, from concept and client onboarding through to site coordination and delivery. The ideal candidate is someone who can take initiative, think critically on-site, and communicate design intent clearly to clients, consultants, and trades.

You'll act as a bridge between design vision and execution, someone who can interpret a concept and translate it into technical drawings, specifications, and site-ready documentation.

Why is this role open:The studio is evolving its structure as the Principal transitions to a more client-facing and business development role. The team currently includes a Principal Designer, an Intermediate Designer, a Junior Designer, and an Office Administrator. They are looking to strengthen the design leadership with someone who can manage client relationships, maintain project momentum, and support the creative and technical direction of the studio.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support projects alongside the Principal Designer, taking ownership of design deliverables and client communication
  • Participate in all phases of design: concept development, material selection, documentation, and construction administration
  • Create and maintain project Pinterest/social boards and mood visuals to establish a shared creative vision with clients
  • Produce and review drawings in Revit; ensure all plans, RCPs, millwork, and elevations meet design intent and technical standards
  • Attend and occasionally lead client and site meetings; record minutes, summarize action items, and follow up on progress
  • Manage specification binders (stone, lighting, plumbing, finishes) and coordinate with vendors and trades
  • Understand and apply residential construction standards, including dimensions, clearances, and building code requirements
  • Problem-solve and make decisions on the spot when issues arise during construction
  • Collaborate closely within a small team balancing independence with transparent communication

Must-haves:

  • 5-8 years of relevant interior design experience
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and strong drawing and documentation skills
  • Deep understanding of residential detailing, materials, and millwork design
  • Strong grasp of building codes, fixture clearances, and construction logic (e.g., plumbing, lighting placement, HVAC coordination)
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, with the ability to manage client expectations and lead meetings confidently
  • Self-sufficient, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple moving parts with minimal supervision
  • Critical thinking and resourcefulness and able to troubleshoot on-site and adjust to changing conditions
Nice-to-haves:
  • Experience in high-end or bespoke residential interiors
  • Familiarity with project management tools or systems for tracking deliverables
  • LEED or NCIDQ certification (asset, not required)
