Position Overview

As an integral part of the Mill Operations team, the main purpose of the Mill Supervisor will effectively supervise a team of mill operators while maintaining a safe and collaborative work environment.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability

Safety / Environment

  • Ensure safe work systems/procedures are always practised and adhered to ensuring duties are performed in a manner that minimises risk to self, employees, and contractors
  • Maintain exemplary standard of housekeeping at all times, safe work, incident/accident reporting & active involvement in safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Abide by and proactively comply with Company policies, procedures, guidelines, and systems, as well as all relevant legislation.
  • Understand and familiarise oneself with site Emergency evacuation procedures

Company / Leadership

  • Display conduct which is aligned with company Core Values, Policies and Procedures.
  • Lead by example and actively participate to achieve department and company goals and objectives.
  • Initiate and provide input into company directives in collaboration with the Site Management team.
  • Communicate department obligations and conditions to the leadership team, ensuring specific understanding and accountability

  • Support and follow all lawful instructions/directives from direct supervisor.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and take responsibility for own conduct and behaviour in the workplace.
  • Ensure good, clear lines of communication between all stakeholders, including the Site Management team, co-workers, and contractors

Technical & Role Accountabilities

  • Oversee the performance of the mill operators
  • Ensure that all personnel in his/her charge know and follow the companys policies, procedures, and standards for

work and safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants

  • Ensure that mill production targets are met as forecast
  • Inform the Mill Operations team of production goals, schedules and priorities.
  • Plan and execute day to day maintenance activities.
  • Inspect the process regularly to ensure downtime is minimised.
  • Establish and maintain an exemplary standard of housekeeping.
  • Actively monitor problem areas, rectify the process and report faults to the Mill Superintendent.
  • Work closely with the Metallurgical department to maximize mill efficiency.
  • Ensure operating parameters are followed while trying to minimize reagent use and maximize gold recovery.
  • Assist in the development SOPs.
  • Be proactive in the development and use of SLRs safety systems.
  • Provide timely, accurate and well-communicated shift reports and cross-shift summaries.
  • Plan and conduct daily and monthly safety meetings with the Operations team.
  • Participate in managing operating costs within the mill department.
  • Complete and review performance evaluations with employees.
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations as necessary or as directed by Mill Superintendent
  • Participate in managing operating costs within the mill department

  • Act in a manner that builds trust and demonstrates integrity.
  • Work collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals both within own department and site wide.
  • Use the talent and knowledge within the team to resolve problems.
  • Inform Mill Superintendent of any/all serious situations including mill equipment

Planning & Organisation

  • Prioritise and complete tasks accurately as to specifications as assigned by the Mill Superintendent within required timeframes.
  • Proactively identify and address risks before they arise as issues.
  • Be punctual to work and all required site meetings.
  • Undertake other duties as lawfully instructed
