We are seeking a Junior Civil Structural Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our dynamic team at our Calgary office. This role offers an opportunity to work in a diverse, challenging, and rewarding environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of engineering technical calculations, project costs, project schedules, drawings, and reports in accordance with specifications, standards, drawings, and codes.
- Coordinate with the design engineering team, project managers, and contractors to provide required inputs and propose solutions to the project.
- Understand and meet the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, customer requests for proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements.
- Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, and recommending actions.
- Attend meetings with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and the project management team.
- Work with the project team to resolve technical concerns during all project phases.
- Assist with preparing templates and checklists (in MS Word and MS Excel) for project delivery.
- Track project commitments (e.g., purchase orders, contracts, etc.), invoices, and chargebacks in the standard financial tracking tool as they are issued or received.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering or a related field, registered with APEGA as an EIT.
- 1-3 years of structural engineering experience with steel, reinforced concrete, water, sanitary, earthwork, and bridge construction engineering.
Knowledge
- General knowledge of engineering standards including NBC, Provisional Building codes, CSA S-16, CSA A23, IBC, ASCE7, AISC, ACI318.
- General knowledge of Project Management (PMI-PMP) is required.
- Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position (e.g., AutoCAD, RISA3D, STAAD Pro, SAP, ETABS, Civil3D, IDEA Statica, and Revit).
- General knowledge of Project Management (PMI-PMP)
- Previous experience reviewing shop drawings and responding to RFIs is an asset.
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Technical competence and strong attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Projects, Excel, Visio Basic.
- Capable of using spreadsheets, word processing, Microsoft Project, and standard office software such as Blue Beam and Outlook.
- Previous experience reviewing shop drawings and responding to RFIs is an asset.

The Civil/Structural Engineer in Training position will be apart of our EIT Mentorship Program to assist with growth and development on technical skills and ability. This position is office based in our Calgary office.
