Controls PLC Programmer – Automotive
We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Programmer with hands-on experience in automotive automation systems, specifically with Ford controls standards. This role focuses on designing, programming, and commissioning PLC-based control systems for automated manufacturing processes in the automotive sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and troubleshoot PLC programs using Allen-Bradley (RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000) and Siemens platforms.
- Interpret and apply Ford NextGen or Fast standards to meet project requirements.
- Integrate robotics, HMI interfaces, and vision systems with production line controls.
- Work with electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and field wiring documentation.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration.
- Conduct onsite commissioning, debugging, and start-up support for automotive manufacturing lines.
- Perform I/O checks, safety checks, and system validation according to Ford specifications.
- Support change management, system upgrades, and production improvements on existing lines.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Controls Engineer or PLC Programmer in an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Direct exposure to Ford standards, such as NextGen, Fast, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in ladder logic programming, structured text, and HMI configuration.
- Strong understanding of industrial automation, control systems architecture, and robot communication protocols.
- Familiarity with safety systems, including safety PLCs, E-Stops, light curtains, and lockout-tagout procedures.
- Ability to travel to customer sites for commissioning and support as needed.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, KUKA).
- Exposure to SCADA systems, data acquisition, and IIoT technologies.
- Previous work on body-in-white, powertrain, or final assembly lines.
