The QA Coordinator must be competent in the technical knowledge of all tests conducted in the Microbiology Lab. They must be able to organize their activities and multitask. This position requires an individual to analyze and interpret a wide variety of microbiological information generated by the Microbiology Lab with minimal supervision. A detailed knowledge of all plant processes (both operations and sanitation) and the pertinent microbiological considerations are a must.
Individuals in this position must be self-starters and be able to initiate responses and propose solutions to non-compliant situations.
Strong understanding of quality programs (i.e., audits, selecting, process management etc.) is essential.
Must have good working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and HACCP programs in order to detect and resolve non-compliance issues/ situations related with Microbiology.

Responsibilities:KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform Microbiology/Chemical testing related regulatory/Corporate requirements.
Track and trend micro results.
Lead EMP program.
Identify micro issues and communicate with FSQA Manager and plant personnel. Track corrective actions taken by plant to improve.
Communicate all non-conformances to supervisors and FSQA Manager.
Assist supervisors in determining root cause analysis and developing effective preventive measures.
Develop and write SOPs for lab.
Back up for Lab Technician.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: (INCLUDE BUT NOT RESTRICTED TO)
Count and enter data for Pre-Op and Online swabbing, Carcass swabs, Shelf Life and evaluate non conformances and communicate with the relevant supervisors and FSQA Manager.
Perform testing/auditing as per pre-requisite/Corporate programs such as air, light etc. and submit reports to FSQA Manager.
Coordinate Salmonella testing program.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory/Corporate requirements of various sample testing programs (Meat meal, water, PEDv, Ice, water retention etc.).
Identify opportunities for investigative testing.
Write new SOPs (if required) and review existing SOPs.
Perform new technician training.
Organize proficiency testing, MSAs, etc.
Maintain Microbiology Lab Supply ordering system (order supplies for the Microbiology Lab when required). This will entail active searching for new suppliers to provide optimal supplies pricing and quality.
Actively search out new Microbiological Lab tests and methods to optimize the efficiency of the Microbiology Lab. Communicate with regulatory authorities regarding the acceptability of new test methods and procedures through FSQA Manager.
Maintenance of manuals and other documents pertinent to the operation of the Microbiology Laboratory and the maintenance of its accreditation.
Maintenance and calibration of Microbiology Lab. equipment (including daily thermometer calibration). Appropriate records must be maintained.
Covers responsibilities of Lab Technician when not available and other related duties as assigned.
Enter all EMP data into database and assist with EMP meetings.
Post-secondary education in Microbiology/sciences or lab techniques and/or knowledge of bacterial testing methodologies.
Minimum 3 years working experience in Microbiology lab in the food industry.
Computer skills – Excel, MS Words, (ability to write and organize documents such as SOPs, records, etc.) and use of Outlook to communicate.
Can work independently, organize time and priorities (i.e., leading projects etc.).
Excellent verbal and written communication – confident in leading training and meetings.
