Job Title: Drafter Architectural Glass & Aluminum
Position Overview:
The Drafter plays a key role in the design and detailing of architectural aluminum and glass systems for commercial, institutional, and residential projects. This position is responsible for preparing accurate shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and installation details based on architectural plans, specifications, and field measurements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce detailed shop drawings for curtain wall, large format, storefront, entrances, canopies, and railing systems using AutoCAD (or Revit as required).
- Review and interpret architectural and structural drawings to develop compliant and coordinated designs.
- Prepare fabrication and assembly drawings for production teams, ensuring accuracy and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and engineers to identify design challenges and propose practical solutions.
- Update and revise drawings as required to reflect changes, site conditions, or client feedback.
- Ensure drawings adhere to industry standards, building codes, and company quality control procedures.
- Maintain organized digital files and drawing records for all projects.
- Assist in material take-offs, hardware detailing, and glass sizing/calculations when required.
- Communicate with vendors and suppliers to confirm system compatibility and component specifications.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Engineering Design, or a related field.
- 25 years of drafting experience in the architectural glass, aluminum, or facade industry.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit, SolidWorks, or Inventor is an asset.
- Strong understanding of curtain wall, large format, storefront, and other glazing systems.
- Knowledge of architectural drawings, building envelope systems, and fabrication processes.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Preferred Assets:
- Familiarity with Ontario Building Code, and thermal performance requirements.
- Experience working with aluminum extrusion design or custom glazing systems.
- Practical understanding of installation sequencing and field coordination.
