Heavy Duty Journeyman Mechanic

BDS Heavy Haul is a trusted name in specialized transportation, delivering oversized and over-dimensional loads across Canada and the United States. Our fleet consists of heavy spec trucks, trailers, and support equipment and we take pride in keeping our gear in top condition. We're currently looking to expand our mechanical team with a skilled and motivatedJourneyman Heavy Duty Mechanic.

Position Overview:
As a Journeyman Mechanic at BDS, youll be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of our fleet of highway tractors, trailers, pilot trucks, and yard equipment. This is a hands-on role in a busy, well-equipped shop environment, where your expertise will directly impact the safety, reliability, and performance of our operations. You'll also work alongside a solid team of professionals who value quality work, efficiency, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on highway tractors, trailers, and support vehicles
• Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, suspension, and brake systems
• Complete CVIPs and maintain service records
• Use diagnostic software and tools (e.g., Cummins Insite, CAT ET, or similar)
• Collaborate with the operations team to schedule maintenance and reduce downtime
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Assist with field service calls and roadside repairs when necessary
• Adhere to all safety standards and company policies

Qualifications:

• Journeyman certification in Heavy Equipment or Commercial Transport Mechanics (Red Seal preferred)
• 3+ years of relevant experience working on heavy duty trucks, trailers, jeeps, boosters, and picker units
• Experience using electronic diagnostic tools and software
• CVIP certification (or ability to obtain)
• Valid Class 5 drivers license (Class 1 or 3 is an asset)
• Strong understanding of heavy haul and specialized equipment is a bonus
• High attention to detail, safety-first attitude, and strong problem-solving skills
• Welding skills are an asset
