Position Summary
The Civil Engineering Technologist supports the design and coordination of land and site development projects within our industrial portfolio. Working closely with senior team members, this role assists in preparing designs, conducting site assessments, and helping ensure project approvals and construction progress smoothly.

This position is ideal for a recent graduate or someone early in their civil engineering career who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute to large-scale development projects. It offers hands-on experience and the opportunity to develop technical skills in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to civil design tasks for land and site development projects
  • Coordinate the design and integration of utilities, grading plans, and drainage systems
  • Work closely with design team and Lead Civil Engineer to apply York Construction andMunicipal Standards for preparing design drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents for projects
  • Drafting of site and grading plans to coordinate with design department during preconstruction and pursuit activities
  • Perform site visits and feasibility assessments, providing technical input and recommendations
  • Assist in preparing servicing design reports
  • Prepare construction contracts and specification documents
  • Prepare quantity take-offs for Estimate of Probable Cost (EPOC)
  • Provide design support to construction field staff
  • Drive continuous improvement by developing and refining internal processes and standards
  • Collaborate with construction and project teams to ensure successful execution and resolution of field issues
  • Prepare and deliver timely inspection and investigative reports with clear, actionable findings
  • Manage coordination with internal teams to meet project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements
  • Communicate effectively with contractors and stakeholders to support project delivery and resolve issues
  • Execute technical tasks including drafting and design with a focus on accuracy and efficiency

What you bring to York

  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 2+ years experience as a civil engineering technologist
  • Familiarity with grading, stormwater, sanitary, and water systems
  • Experience in erosion and sediment control (ESC) planning
  • Proficiency in grading and utility design for municipal projects
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D design software
  • Familiarity with modeling software such as XPSWMM, HydroCAD, and WaterCAD
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with internal teams and municipal staff
  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
  • Eagerness to grow within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Basic understanding of project documentation and municipal approval processes
  • Knowledge of Alberta/Canadian Standards Association (CSA)
