Job description:
We are a growing, family-run custom drapery and furniture manufacturing company looking for a skilled, detail-oriented Lead Upholsterer. This is a hands-on role for someone passionate about their craft and excited to contribute to a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
As our Lead Upholsterer, you will take the lead on custom upholstery projects, while assisting in frame construction design and contributing to production planning. You'll work closely with our factory teams, designers, and project managers to bring high-end custom furniture pieces to life.

Key Responsibilities
- Measure, cut, and sew fabric or leather for custom furniture pieces.
- Strip furniture down to the frame to remove old upholstery, padding, and springs.
- Install webbing, springs, foam, and padding using hand and air tools.
- Upholster furniture using materials such as fabric, leather, and vinyl.
- Match patterns and seams with precision for clean, professional finishes.
- Create templates or patterns for complex, custom shapes and sizes.
- Apply decorative details such as piping, tufting, or nailheads.
- Repair or replace damaged frames, padding, or fabric.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets strict quality standards.
- Maintain safety standards and a clean, well-organized workstation.
- Support on-site installations and take measurements when required.
- Assist with lifting and handling heavy furniture and materials.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior upholsterers or apprentices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of upholstery experience in a professional workshop or manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency with industrial sewing machines, cutting tools, and upholstery techniques.
- Ability to read drawings and translate concepts into finished furniture.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship.
- Comfortable working with a variety of materials and finishes.
- Able to lift heavy objects and work in a physically active role.
- Fluent in English (written and verbal).
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading a small team or training apprentices.
- Background in custom furniture, drapery, or interiors manufacturing.
- Familiarity with production schedules, timelines, or quoting systems.
