POSITION SUMMARY:
Milestone Environmental Contracting Inc. (MECI) is seeking a motivated and safety-focused Water Treatment Technician to join our dynamic field team. In this role, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of a variety of water treatment systems on project sites across the region. This includes mechanical installation, chemical handling, equipment calibration, system troubleshooting, and performance monitoring.
The ideal candidate has a mechanical mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and a working knowledge of water treatment processes. You must be comfortable working in diverse and remote environments, adapting to varying shift schedules, and contributing to a safety-first culture.
As a Water Treatment Technician at MECI, you will play a key role in protecting the environment while supporting the success of complex construction and remediation projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reads, understands and follows MECIs Corporate Health and Safety Program, Policy and Procedures
- Keep training up to date in line with MECI programs
- Participates in MECI safety touch program
- Keep the sites neat and clean of debris
- Maintain equipment and tools
- Work closely with Supervisors around site equipment
- Gain knowledge in small site equipment, and get trained to use that equipment
- Majority of time will be on project sites; travel and work on remote sites across the region may be required
- Shift duration and frequency is variable and dependent on project and client requirements. Shifts can include weekends and holidays
- Complete site visit timesheets
- Complete site visit checklists
- Setup and Installation of water treatment equipment including:
- Safe chemical handling and setup of chemical dosing equipment
- Mechanical installation of pumps, piping and hoses
- Supervision of electrical installation
- Water sampling and coordination with labs for analytical results
- Data logging and monitoring of equipment performance
- System troubleshooting
- Media and cartridge/bag filter changeouts
- Calibration of instrumentation (pH, turbidity, conductivity, etc.)
- General operations of water treatment systems (clarifiers, UF/MF, RO, carbon filters, media filters, ion exchange.)
Health & Safety:
- Reads, understands and follows Milestones Corporate Environment, Health and Safety Program, Policy and Procedures.
- Ensure health and safety is considered in the performance of all activities both on and off the job. Participation in H & S initiatives will be monitored and reviewed as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Construction industry exposure / experience
- Understanding of water treatment systems
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools
- Understanding of electrical systems and controls
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to maintain organizational and time management skills
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows, and other operational software
- Ability to communicate with others in a confidential, positive and professional manner
- Have some working knowledge of WorkSafe BC rules and regulations
