Reporting to the Director, Shelter & Housing, the Manager, Transitional Housing provides day-to-day and strategic leadership for the 24/7/365 Transitional Housing program. This includes emergency and long-term stay beds for women experiencing poverty, homelessness, violence, addictions, mental health and systemic marginalization. This role focuses on building and sustaining a values-driven, trauma-informed, and equity-based team culture. The Manager acts as a coach, mentor and guide, developing the capacity of team members to provide recovery-oriented, client-led support. This position plays a central role in aligning operations with YW Calgary's mission and strategic priorities, ensuring the program works in collaboration with shelter and affordable housing as part of a broader, integrated continuum of care.

This on-site role is a 14-month contract position. It requires regular weekday hours (Monday to Friday), with one Saturday per month and occasional evenings and weekends to support staffing, emergencies, and operational needs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead, in collaboration with People Services, full cycle recruitment with a focus on equity, inclusion and alignment with staffing models.
  • Onboard and support employees using strengths-based supervision and clear performance expectations that align with program goals and organizational values.
  • Actively coach staff to improve judgment, accountability and resilience when working with complex cases.
  • Manage a large, complex team, providing strategic oversight and guidance in collaboration with team leads.
  • Set and reinforce team goals that reflect high standards, shared accountability and alignment with the organization's strategic plan.
  • Participate in regular check-ins with the Director and People Services to ensure alignment of staffing structure, performance concerns, leadership coaching and team culture.
  • Schedule regular team meetings to ensure information is shared efficiently, team goals, norms and values are aligned and there is clarity on action plans and expectations.
  • Work with other shelter and housing leaders in planning and development of portfolio team learning and team-building days.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational and program-specific policies and procedures that promote consistency, safety and cultural responsiveness.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant funder, regulatory, licensing, and legislative requirements.
  • Lead annual shelter accommodation expectations audit ensuring program meets or exceeds standards for health, safety, and service delivery.
  • Lead coordination of health, safety, and security protocols for residents and staff including emergency preparedness, incident documentation, and critical incident follow up.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with service providers and agencies to enhance client access to wrap around supports.
  • Support financial tracking, forecasting, and reporting by maintaining accurate records and timely submissions.
  • Ensure all staff complete case documentation, data entry and reporting in line with trauma-informed principles and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate across internal teams to integrate partnerships into programming and strengthen continuity of care.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (master's degree is an asset).
  • 3-5+ years in gender-based violence, housing, addictions or related sector, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Experience supervising staff in a 24/7 environment and working with women impacted by mental health, addictions, housing instability and systemic barriers.
  • Familiarity with systems such as housing, mental health and income support.
  • Strong ability to lead, coach, and support high-performing, trauma-informed teams.
  • Skilled in crisis management, problem solving, conflict resolution, and staff supervision.
  • Experience overseeing program operations compliance and staffing structures.
  • Comfortable collaborating across programs and services areas and adapting to evolving priorities.
  • Deep understanding of trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and client-centered practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, anti-oppression and cultural safety.
  • Leads with empathy, clarity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Strong organizational, documentation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data systems and reporting tools.
  • Able to support funder reports, grant writing, and compliance tracking.
