The safety trainer will have expert knowledge and skills in order to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture. This represents a key role in helping control occupational risk. Leads development initiatives through hosting training programs. Communicating with all departments to identify training needs and mapping out development plans for teams and individuals for onboarding orientation, site required training, task training, refresher training, specialized training and field task observations. To work in conjunction with safety coordinators to manage the Occupational Health and Safety function of the business, to actively promote continuous improvement and strict adherence to company safety policy and practices to achieve industry best practice standards and performance for Thyssen Mining in its fields of operation and ensure continuing promotion of a positive safety culture throughout the company.
DUTIES:
- Leads in-house training requirements: conducts training for new and existing employees regarding proper methods and techniques to ensure safety compliance within assigned work areas; and maintains training records.
- Coordinates and monitors departmental and specific work group implementation of safety programs and measures.
- Develop training programs such as safe operational procedures or power point presentations.
- Train employees on safe operation and inspection of various mining equipment, such as bolter, jumbo, scissor deck, scoop. Telehandler, skid steer and other various mining equipment.
- Complete job observations and competency verification on operators.
- Audit employee training requirements for site and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and promote training requirements as required.
- Educate and train on pre & post operational checks of underground equipment.
- Complete site inspections to promote a health and safety workplace.
- Work in conjunction with site safety advisors to aid in incident investigations.
SCHEDULE: The position is expected to work a 12-hour shift on a 14:14 rotation; fly in/fly out.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of training experience in a mining environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the work site.
- Train the trainer certification in fall arrest, confined space, fit testing is an asset, but not required.
- Strong time management skills
- Working knowledge of office 365 and able to utilize various technology-based devices.
