What Would You Do?
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Finance functions within PFG. The main focus area will be responsible for the full cycle accounting for this division, which includes preparing accounting entries and daily, monthly and weekly reporting.
The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Controller and accounting staff to ensure accurate reporting for the Corporate division. They will also provide backup to other department members (Accounts Payable Clerk, Treasury and Accountants) as needed.
The key duties and responsibilities of this position would include, but are not limited to:
Month-End Accounting Entries
- Prepare asset, liability and capital asset entries.
- Post bi-weekly payroll entries & calculate payroll accruals.
- Post monthly inventory adjustments.
- Post intercompany transactions.
- Review and assist with posting freight invoices.
- Compare balance sheet natures to sub-ledger spreadsheets for all accounts within divisions responsible for and account for any discrepancies.
- Prepare and maintain asset valuation spreadsheets.
- Monthly margin reconciliation.
- Prepare the monthly financial statements for management after the month-end close.
- Prepare various supplemental schedules for management.
- Inquiry into monthly variances noted in the financials and supplemental schedules.
- Prepare various month-end analysis reports, such as finished goods listings and aging reports.
- Prepare monthly inventory reporting for the bank.
- Prepare any other requests for analysis as assigned by the Controller or Director of Finance, as well as requests from other management members.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets with the respective managers of assigned divisions.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly forecasts in partnership with department managers.
- Assist managers with questions on the budget to actual.
- Work with external auditors to provide required documentation for respective divisions during various audits throughout the year.
- Maintain accounting controls and recommend any improvements to policies and procedures.
- Prepare deposits for sales of returned products.
- Backup to prepare all PST, QST and GST filings

What Do You Bring?
- Post-secondary education in an Accounting Program.
- Minimum 3-5 years in an accounting role with progressive responsibilities.
- Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment would be considered an asset.
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office and accounting software programs.
- Exposure to AS400 is an asset.
- Proficient in written and oral skills.
- Effective organization and time management skills (ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines).
- Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and independently.
- Flexible and able to adapt to change in a positive manner.
- Demonstrate a new approach to solving an issue(s) and applying a new process.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a computer.
- Must have a driver's license and access to a vehicle.
This position requires being present in the office Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM4:30 PM, 40 hours per week. We have two locations in Winnipeg within two blocks of each other, and the ability to work at both locations will be required.
