POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the Human Resources department with payroll and benefits administration. The Payroll Assistant supports the Payroll and HR coordinator to prepare, enroll and implement various benefits programs and prepare for payroll each pay period.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Payroll Assistant will:

  • Support the Payroll & HR Coordinator with processing biweekly payroll in Dayforce in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations for payroll matters (remittance source deductions, EHT, WSIB, etc.).
  • Verify timesheets and hours for all employees.
  • Administer benefits and GRSP for all eligible employees.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and update employee salary and benefit records.
  • Ensure the timely processing of benefits enrolments and change requests.
  • Assist with month and year end payroll-related reporting and reconciliation.
  • Support employees with payroll and benefits inquiries.
  • Provide administrative support to the Payroll & HR Coordinator, including confidential filing.
  • Support departmental and organization data and reporting requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education.
  • At least 2 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of Ceridian and or Sage is a strong asset
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and decision making.
  • High level of confidentiality, discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong teamwork approach.
  • Ability to synthesize data and organize material effectively.
  • Ability to identify issues requiring escalation to the manager.
  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in other languages is an asset.
