Located in Gunn, Alberta, Lakeview Recovery Community supports men living with addiction on their journey to a sustainable recovery. We deliver a full continuum of addiction recovery support in a community environment, focusing on healing and personal growth. Our goal is that individuals leave Lakeview with the life skills, tools, and resources to maintain long-term wellness and sustain recovery and having nurtured healthy relationships with friends and family.

Reporting to the PPP Coordinator, the Purposeful Pathway Program (PPP) Support Worker will provide hands-on support to clients participating in the Work is Therapy program at Lakeview Recovery Community. This role involves assisting with basic maintenance and facility upkeep, facilitating daily living support, and encouraging meaningful engagement in structured work activities. The Support Worker will play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and respectful living environment while promoting recovery and life skills development.

Role Specific Accountabilities

  • Program Support:
    • Support the daily operations of the Work is Therapy program through task setup, activity coordination, and equipment readiness.
    • Complete general handyman tasks and basic facility maintenance to ensure safe and functional environments.
    • Assist in planning and delivering therapeutic work activities aligned with recovery goals.
      Support residents in developing basic life and employment skills through structured activities.
  • Client Engagement and Daily Living Support:
    • Assist residents with daily living tasks such as light cleaning, organizing shared spaces, and supporting routines that promote personal responsibility.
    • Provide emotional support by actively listening, encouraging participation, and fostering a sense of belonging and purpose.
    • Promote healthy social interactions and positive behavior within the community setting.
    • Participate in cross-functional projects to support organizational initiatives.
  • Advocacy and Resource Navigation:
    • Help connect residents with internal staff or external services when needed (e.g., for medical appointments or community supports).
    • Encourage autonomy while helping residents understand and access available resources.
  • Safety and Environment Maintenance:
    • Conduct regular checks of common areas and report any safety concerns or hazards.
    • Respond appropriately to emergencies or behavioral escalations, following internal protocols.
    • Promote an inclusive and respectful environment aligned with trauma-informed principles.
  • Documentation and Communication:
    • Document participation, incidents, and observations accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Maintain confidentiality and follow ethical guidelines in all interactions.
    • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the PPP Coordinator and the broader recovery team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a support, facilities, or human services role, preferably in a recovery or residential care environment.
  • Knowledge of addiction recovery and mental health challenges is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with vulnerable populations.
  • Basic maintenance or handyman skills, and comfort working with tools and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to adapt, remain patient, and provide calm support in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Compassion, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting others in recovery.

Conditions of Employment

Successfully complete and pass a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check prior to initiating employment and annually thereafter.
