Position Overview:

We require a CWB certified structural steel welding supervisor to oversee and managing our welding operations to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications. The welding supervisor shall coordinate and supervise welding activities to ensure projects meet quality, safety, and schedule requirements. They shall interpret structural drawings, and provide technical guidance to welders. Responsibilities include quality control, safety enforcement, and adherence to welding codes and standards

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plan daily welding activities and assign / supervise qualified welders
  • Interview new hires and manage welders including discipline where required.
  • Conduct training for welders on new techniques, safety, and industry standards.
  • Supervise CWB welder testing. Ensure welder qualifications are current for their assigned task.
  • Issue approved drawings to welders and remove/ replace when changes are made. Issue RFIs to engineering and provide red-lines of drawings
  • Ensure welders are working efficiently with the right tools, fixtures and consumables following WPS and not over-welding or causing distortion
  • Review processed material kits and assign to welders
  • Ensure welding consumables are correct, properly stored / maintained and replenished.
  • Enforce cleanliness and organization in the weld fabrication area
  • Foster a positive team environment that encourages communication and collaboration among team members
  • Minimize rework through mentoring, monitoring, training, proper equipment setup and maintenance, consumable and material management,
  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols to create a secure work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with welding codes, standards, and specifications such as CSA, AWS.
  • Provide technical guidance to welding teams on techniques and procedures.
  • Inspect welds for quality, accuracy, and adherence to codes, standards and specifications.
  • Interface with CWB and client inspectors
  • Manage and maintain welding equipment and tools.
  • Help develop new welding procedures and supervise weld procedure qualification
  • Keep detailed records of welding activities, inspections, and project progress.
  • Investigate and resolve any issues or discrepancies related to welding.

Skills/Requirements/Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Current CWB Structural Steel Welding Supervisor certification (required)
  • Current CWB Level 1 or higher Welding Inspection Certification (nice to have)

Experience:

  • 5+ years experience as a CWB certified structural welder with FCAW and SMAW qualifications (S class) in all positions.
  • 5+ years experience as a structural fitter (can be congruent with welding experience)
  • Strong ability to read and understand structural detail drawings
  • Proven experience in welding supervision or a related role.

Welding Processes:

  • In-depth knowledge of structural steel welding processes, techniques, and equipment.
  • Ability to properly set up and do basic troubleshooting of welding machines.
  • Good understanding of weld fixturing, heat shaping, weld faults, causes and correction

Safety:

  • Excellent safety record with good understanding of OH&S requirements and CSA W117.2

CWB Standards:

  • In depth knowledge of CWB W59, W47.1 and applicable AWS welding codes and standards.
