The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel projects. This position requires a deep understanding of steel detailing, fabrication, and erection processes, excellent blueprint reading skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, architects, engineers, and contractors. What Youll do:
- Leverage expertise to drive focused, innovative solutions for both immediate and long-term project challenges
- Prepare detailed budgetary and final estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel scopes of work
- Evaluate project requirements, including timeframes, labor needs, and material costs, to ensure feasibility and accuracy
- Perform precise material, labor, and time take-offs using blueprints, specifications, and other project documents
- Develop detailed cost estimates and qualifications for bid proposals, ensuring precision and alignment with project goals
- Perform meticulous structural and miscellaneous material take-offs to support accurate project planning
- Collaborate effectively with contractors, engineers, and architects to ensure accuracy and alignment throughout the estimating process
- Assist with scope clarifications during pre-bid meetings and RFI processes
- Present final estimates and proposals to clients in a professional, clear, and timely manner
- Support project managers and project controls teams with cost and schedule information during project handovers
- Deliver polished and timely estimate presentations to clients, maintaining professionalism and fostering positive relationships
- Assist in developing project schedules related to steel detailing and fabrication timelines.
- Provide input for cost control measures and budget tracking during project execution
- Participate in lessons-learned reviews to improve future estimating accuracy
- Maintain and update historical cost data, vendor pricing, and production rates for reference in future bids
- Support the implementation of best practices and process improvements within the estimating department
What makes you stand out:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong emphasis on advanced Excel skills
- Experience with Tekla PowerFab or FabSuite
- Prior experience in projects involving tilt panels, manufacturing facilities, or schools
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively within a team setting
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical abilities, and excellent organizational skills to manage complex tasks efficiently
- Familiarity with diverse worksites, cost structures, and project timelines to ensure accurate estimates and informed decision-making

Must Haves:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in estimating steel detailing, structural, or miscellaneous steel projects
- Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or equivalent experience in steel detailing and fabrication. (Relevant Diploma, Certificate or work experience may be considered)
- Proven ability to read and interpret complex structural drawings, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
