About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on, technically inclined recent graduate to join our R&D team as a Systems Technologist. This role combines assembly of custom concrete scanning systems, field testing, 3D printing, and client interfacing, supporting the deployment and optimization of advanced custom-engineered systems used in both research and operational environments.
You will also play a key role in developing and documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs), assembly workflows, training materials, and inventory systems. This is a high-impact opportunity for a motivated graduate looking to build technical, operational, and client-facing experience in an innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
1.) System Assembly & Integration
- Assemble mechanical systems from custom and off-the-shelf components.
- Install electronic modules and cable harnesses
- Work with engineers and designers to define and document repeatable assembly procedures and SOPs.
2.) 3D Printing
- Operate and maintain 3D printers (FDM / SLA / SLS).
- Post-process and inspect 3D printed components for production and prototyping use.
- Provide feedback to engineering on manufacturability, fit, and quality.
3.) Inventory & Workflow Support
- Track and organize mechanical and electronic components, tools, and consumables.
- Maintain part inventories and assist with BOM creation and updates.
- Coordinate with suppliers and support basic procurement processes.
4.) Field Testing & Deployment
- Support field deployment of systems, including setup, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Record performance data and user feedback to inform system improvements.
- Lead field demonstrations and assist in training top-level technicians or client representatives.
5.) Process & Documentation Development
- Collaborate with R&D to document SOPs, build guides, QC checklists, and training materials.
- Help standardize procedures for production and future scaling.
6.) R&D Assistance
- Assist in other R&D related tasks as required and as availability allows.

Qualifications and Eligibility
This role is part of the NRC IRAP Youth Employment Program. Applicants must be recent graduates (past 12 months) of a Canadian post-secondary institution, under the age of 30, and must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Please note that holders of student visas and temporary work permits are not eligible for this government subsidized role.
- Must be a recent graduate (within the past 12 months) of a Canadian university program in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Product Design, Systems Technology or a related technical/applied science field.
- Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person granted refugee status
- Under 30 years of age
Skills and Experience
- Competent with mechanical tools, fasteners, and assembly processes
- Familiarity with 3D printing workflows (FDM / SLA / SLS)
- Able to read CAD drawings and technical documentation
- Organized and detail-oriented, with strong follow-through
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal oversight
- Comfortable interfacing with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Willing to travel for field testing, service deployments, or tech demonstrations as needed
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
