Your role at GEI. GEI's Civil practice is growing, and we are seeking a Structural Technical Specialist to join our dynamic team. The candidate is expected to be primarily based out of GEI's Hamilton office but is also expected to work out of GEI's Guelph office as project needs change. This individual will assist with design drafting (CAD and Revit), permitting applications, structural field investigations, and construction inspection related to water and wastewater facilities including pumping stations, reservoirs, valve chambers, and treatment plants. A working knowledge of Revit with a focus on structural modelling as well as a willingness to work in the field is required. The selected candidate will work with senior engineers in GEI's Hamilton and Guelph offices. Essential Responsibilities & Duties- Collaborate with project managers and technical staff on water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Assist with the evaluation and analyzing of collected data and prepare technical reports, letters and memoranda related to structural assessment and design.
- Assist with the development of structural design drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and bid documents.
- Complete field condition assessments and construction inspections related to structural work. Inspections may involve confined space entry and working at heights. GEI will provide the necessary training and personal protective equipment for safe work.
- Assist with the development of project plans, schedules and budgets under the supervision of the structural engineer and/or project manager.
- Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel on occasion.
- Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Architectural Technology preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in structural and architectural projects
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Revit
- Eligibility for licensure with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well alone and in a team atmosphere
- Willing to travel on temporary assignments as necessary, including field assignments
- Valid G driver's license and access to a personal vehicle
