Job Description:
Reporting to the VP of Security & Information Services (S&IS), this position is one of four IS Director positions in the S&IS team with the others being; Director, Corporate Security, Director, Capital, Projects Delivery and Director, S&IS Business Office. In coordination with the Corporate Security team, IS responsibilities follow an ITIL model for IT lifecycle development and support. This individual is required to lead the organization in achieving business strategic objectives enabled by the appropriate use of all aspects of technology (hardware, software, methodology, support, etc.). The Director will work with the business and the S&IS team to formulate a rolling three-year plan of business system requirements, IT support and investment. This role will be key in the development and support of AltaLink's regulatory application for IT operating expenditures and necessary headcount resources.
Key to the role is providing leadership by working with the business to continuously improve upon and lead functional change by utilizing: a consultative approach to develop clear and concise business objectives, business process design, and working with business peers to coach and mentor on leveraging technology. This role requires a highly collaborative approach to be successful.
This position will work closely with the other S&IS Directors, their respective lines of business and the IS department to provide both people and technology leadership to ensure the solutions align to the corporate and Enterprise Architecture (EA) strategies. The role also monitors critical IS operational processes to ensure continuous improvement. These processes will need to align and to be supported by the applications to ensure business value is consistently delivered.
AltaLink engages third party expertise to progress IT developments and provides support to meet business needs. This role will be crucial in ensuring that third party vendors provide effective service transition and service operations.
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with Business Leaders and the other S&IS Directors to create innovative solutions that effectively and efficiently meet the business needs.
- Develop IS objectives and support annual plans that align to the departmental and corporate strategy. Ensure appropriate metrics are in place to monitor and measure success of the plans.
- Work with the Business, Project Leaders, as well as external resources, to identify high-impact business opportunities and requirements, transforming them into value added programs and projects.
- Collaboratively work with internal customers to develop and implement service level agreements with sound measures to monitor targets and identify areas for improvement (e.g., reduce cost, reduce cycle time, simplify, automate, retire, replace or optimize).
- Communicate effectively with Business Leaders to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies.
- Continue to foster a diverse and inclusive culture, oriented toward performance, accountability and open feedback.
- Ensure new operations plans, policies, procedures, and transition/migration plans are consistent with the overall company goals and objectives while meeting compliance requirements.
- Ensure the effective operation of IT controls required to ensure compliance with AltaLink's financial, security and regulatory frameworks.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or other related field is preferred.
- 12-15 years people leadership and business management experience.
- Proven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities.
- Proven senior IS Management with previous experience in compliance and cyber security.
- A track record of driving an IS strategy in a complex environment.
- Exceptional communication skills are essential in order to explain complex IT concepts to non-technical colleagues.
- Experience in managing multiple IT disciplines i.e. software development, technical support, systems architecture, data centre operations, etc.
- Experience in 7 by 24 critical infrastructure management and understand the importance of related internal relationships.
- Experience successfully implementing product and development lifecycles.
- In-depth experience negotiating with and managing third parties.
- Strong service orientation.
- Demonstrated and proven leadership abilities and communication skills.
- Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills.
- Proven track record of good attendance.
